Lets see some pics of deer taken with the 223. Also interested in the load and shot details...

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Ingwe, you always impress me with your 22 centerfire kills. How do the Hornadys work? Your buddy MD said in an article in Rifle or Handloader forget which, a few years ago they work great, just to avoid the shoulder...

What bullet grain would work for a whitetail? In 5.56 NATO.

I plan on using my service rifle when I join the Army. I might be stationed in Alabama and would want something to do on weekend leave. grin

If the 223AI counts...

75gr Swift @70 yards, deer quartering on, through the on shoulder out the ribs. Deer took a few steps.
[Linked Image]

62gr TSX @90 yards, broadside through shoulders. Again maybe 2 steps.
[Linked Image]

62gr TSX 100 yards, deer quartering on, though shoulder/knuckle, deer dropped RIGHT the [bleep] now, never so much as made a twitch.
[Linked Image]

Fireforming load with 64gr PP, @25 yards though shoulder. Recovered bullet against hide on offside.

I was present for this one that Paul shot. Deer was going hard away down hill. 70gr TSX at @50 yards went in behind shoulder, traveled into the neck, followed the length of the spine and exited between the eyes.

LBP, I would agree with MD on that, used them for years before a decent premium .22 bullet came out.Others here have done well with Sierra GK 63s gr and the now defunct Nosler Solid Base 60 gr.
Since the advent of TSXs I cant see using alot else...don't need to avoid the shoulder even with the 53 grainers, others here like the 62 gr. TSX and even the 70 in the tighter twist rifles.Anyone of them are hard to argue with...

What is you guys choice as the best bullet for deer and such in 223? TSX, Partition, Swift, Gameking, Etc? I have only used the Partition in handloads. When I was a kid I used factory Remington 50 gr Power Lokts in my .222. It worked fine but I only took neck shots. I like to be able to shoot thru the shoulder if I have too. No complaints with the Partition so far.

60 gr hornady is good. All of the bullets Steelhead listed are good. I paid 25 buck for a 1000 of the Hornadys and they shoot bug holes so I am done looking.

With written permission from my CO I could hunt on base.

There has to be a set time to have it back.

Winnie, hate to burst your bubble but no way will you EVER sign out a weapon except for an official training event.

As for .223, my 9 yr. old killed his 1st buck last year with the 53 grain TSX at 118 yards. Deer flopped.
