Buy one from everybody! Everybody has diff prices for reasons. Dan burke who is among the top slip-joint makers in the world told me one time i charge 5 times the money as you do for the same knife because it takes me that much longer to make the same knife. His fine motor skills have lots of age. I assure you we are all getting rich. Get on guys list sooner or later you will get one. If you dont like it sell it more than likely you may get more than you paid for it. I did not see anyone complain or b$tch about the price of custom knives. Maybe you are getting rich or maybe your not. One thing is for certain though. It matters not a dog chit to me or anyone else that has given me advice on this thread. Dink

His Model 60 is one helluva knife. His Model 26 is a classic. You can't go wrong with any of them though. Just pick one out that grabs ya', and go with it.

Dink No dog in this fight, but I think you took Rick's post differently than he intended. Or maybe I took your post differently than you intended- I've got blades from David Winston, Gene Ingram, Al Alexander, and Mike Miller. They're all nice and I usually flip a coin on which one is going to get used.

I'm also a rookie when it comes to custom knives. But I did pick up 2 of these in the orange G-10 from David last year when he came out with this new pattern. And for a great price to boot! They sure are nice IMHO and I like them. I've posted a link to Mr. Winstons post - its the model 61. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/5721110/Model_61_Hunter#Post5721110

I'm sure Rick was saying that no knife makers he knows are driving Turbo Porsches off the money in knife making. Time is money and money can't buy the skill set required to make custom knives.

so I own both... several from both as a matter of fact. If I was going to own just one and use it for the rest of my life (of course this is the same thing I told myself when I bought my first custom knife so good luck with that)... I would buy an Ingram. I like the Winston knives and I would agree they are a great value but I find Gene's knives to be just ever so slightly more refined. It's no different than most anything else be it cars, watches, guns... the difference is maybe 2 or 3% but that last little bit double the price.

Not the question the original poster asked but this is my answer: Ingram or Dozier. These two are the top of the heap to me. I've tried and still own many different custom knives but, through use, these two makers--regardless of pattern--make the best "using" hunting knives, in my opinion. Dan Crotts makes an excellent knife but you might as well call it a Dozier because he makes Dozier knives.
Snoop around on the 'net and you can find an Ingram, Dozier, or Crotts that would work for you and have it in a week.

If anyone being a ass you compareing a man who taught another man to make knifes. I think Winston charges a lot less is what i was trying to get at. Buy one from everybody! Everybody has diff prices for reasons.
