I think that over the past 40 years I've owned at least 1 788 in every cartridge that Remington made them in except the 44 Magnum. I currently have 1, a 308 in a McM Classic swirley that is a good shooter, but hasn't been hunted since it came to me.
Bought a SWEET 243 a couple years ago, extra stock, 3 mags, it was awesome!
The lady wanted a bulldog, and I wasnt too much against it so I sent the rifle down the road.
Bought a 22-250 from here, that although it was a little rougher than the seller described, should clean up nicely. Its a 22-250 for the lady to hunt javelina, coyotes etc.

My first deer rifle was a 788 .30-30. Less than $100 at K-Mart. Wish beer and women hadn't made me sold it when I was a kid. Have a .30-30 now and a .222. Very accurate rifles and not so cheap anymore. I would buy plenty more of them for the right price.

788's have commanded a nice premium for several years compared to their selling point. That said deals are out there when people don't realize the market. Of the 5-7 in our family currently and those since gone none cost is over $225 or so and none were in rough shape

I dont own one but would like to find one in left hand at a good price some day. My uncle and cousin(his son) each have one in .243win and that is all they have used for deer hunting for going on nearly 50 years.

I have one in 223 Rem. Shot like a house of fire. I'm having a 26" Stainless Lilja fluted barrel installed,a new Boyd's Nutmeg laminated stock, and a new Bushnell Trophy 6X18X50 scope. Here's some targets shot at 100 yards.I love the 788. Have had one for years now and they are super accurate!
