I recognized a lot of it 'til about the low 70's. After that, not so much.

He's got some chops, though.

i dont think he did too well with Santana though... sounded kinda "sticky", and didnt flow as well as Carlos.

I've always considered Carlos to be abit of a hack. He generally uses overdriven effects to get that 'smooth' sound. He's a garage player, technically.

Let me clarify. He's got a great melodic instinct and that's something you can't teach.

As a technician he's a hack. He couldn't begin to do the playing seen in this clip.

I'm imagining how long it must have taken him to set up 100 effects patches so that he could step through them in the right order like that.

It's pretty impressive.

Unfortunately, he didn't get the patch for "Money For Nothing" even close. That's an iconic distortion. I'm not even a guitar player, and I could have come closer than he did to that patch on just about any digital effects unit I'm aware of.
