Ah, but what a fun old fossil the Hornet is! Having owned more .22CF's than any sane man needs in his life- from the Swift down to the Hornet- if I were to re-enter that game, I would snatch up a Hornet. I have a little BSA Martini single shot action patiently waiting its turn to be built into something, undoubtedly a .22 Hornet or K-Hornet.

Long ago and far away, I had an uncle who killed a passel of deer with a 340 .22Hornet. In the hands of a cool shot, a Hornet can do a lot that belies its size- with a lot less sturm und drang.

Yes, I like the Hornet too, but I am partial to the .218 Bee as well. Last Bee I had was a Winchester lever rifle smile

If Savage wanted to really stand the .22 shooting world on its ear, they should chamber it in 22-3000 or R2 Lovell (along with a source of modern brass). Another hoary old round that is a sinful pleasure to shoot. (But I will concede that is the musings of a gun crank who yearns for the 'old' stuff. The .218 Bee and Mashburn Bee is their equal.)

There's a pretty good write-up and a short film clip of the rascal here:

Looks like a great little rig.

Gary--

The rear sight on that little rifle looks like a simplified version of the old Climbin' Lyman.

My kids are both over six feet tall, and I still want one of these.

Bringing it and a box of ammo to the Fest Rod so you can take it for a test ride!

I was thinking the side profile of that rear sight looked like an integrated Lyman 29 1/2.
