There's been several threads on what version of the Ruger #1 single shot you guys like the best.... But, what would it look like if you had a chance to build your own?
My version would have a clean (no iron sights) barrel 24 inches long. The shorter "H" forearm. Barrel attached swivel mount and I lose the rib in favor of a simpler/cleaner mount to attach a scope. The closest factory job to this desription that I know of is an older Lipsey offering....#1 AH..IIRC.
What would yours look like?

I thinking of either a 35 Whelen or AI version, possibly the 400 Whelen, with: 26" 1/2 octagon - 1/2 round barrel, Alexander Henry forend, keep the 1/4 rib, add QD mounts, NECG type peep sight, barrel band, skeleton grip cap, traditional or classic buttplate, engrave trigger.

Stainless action with engraving, rust blued barrel, 24 inches with slightly larger profile than the 1A, with standard Ruger band front sight, scope rib that extends over receiver ring, short fore end w/ebony tip, fancy walnut with red pad. Caliber, 6.5x55 Swede or 7x57 Mauser with custom, slightly shorter throat.

I keep thinking about a 1V, one of the models I have never owned. Since we're wishing, I'd like the V to have a 26" maybe longer stainless barrel chambered in 257 Weatherby But I like some of the de-banded No.3's in the recent thread here as well. Yall knock it off, gonna cause me to buy more guns I don't need...

The word "need" is only relevant for your first #1!
From then on, it is all addiction that goes beyond simple need.

Engraved and rust blued, case colored lever and block. 20" barrel with an RSI type stock (exhibition grade)with a case colored skeleton buttplate and grip cap, the ruger band front sight, a rear quarter rib with express sights (1 fixed, two folding leaves)and the capability to mount a scope, and I'd need a matched set in 7x57R and 9.3x62. Add a couple swarovski scopes in QD mounts, 1 1.5-6 for the 7x57 and a fixed 2.5 or 3x for the 9.3, and I figure I'd be all set for where and what I hunt. Plus a few species I don't yet hunt, but could afford to if I had the money to buy the rifles.

As issued from the factory is plenty pleasing to me. RSI is my favorite version I think. IF I could have my choice of anything, it would be an RSI in 338-06, not possible unless custom. That's a simple re-bore away from being your reality. I turned a .243 into a .358, because I loved the rifle so much, but the .243 wasn't elk worthy in my mind. Plus a few species I don't yet hunt, but could afford to if I had the money to buy the rifles. Awesome build. If I had that kinda scratch I'd probably be toting a decked out Dakota model 10....thinkin .280 Rem. I guess what I'm really looking for here is what people would like to see Ruger bring out in a new edition of the #1?
