Hey fellas, anyone using the Talley MSR?

I had emailed Talley and the reply is the ring is machine from barstock but the ring cap is the same as the LW version.

After having a LW cap split I am a bit leary.

Thoughts?
I don't have direct experience with them.

Given their reply, and the fact that I've had the same experiences as you with the LW, I'd look elsewhere.

I've had great luck with Warne steel and aluminum Mountain Techs, Hawkins precision for pic/weaver bases, Burris signature XTR, and SWFA branded rings.

I hear ya SB!

I've used their steel vertical split rings in the past and no complaints.

Kinda makes me wonder though about their metallurgy choices.

Use their bases and split rings, no problems at all, probably have 25 pair on rifles.

As far as their metallurgy, I think it falls into the category of it works most of the time for most users. Lots of people saying they had great luck with them and I don't doubt it; everyone has different calibers, scopes, and use profiles. I had great luck with them on a few rigs right up until I didn't.

I read that they changed their shape to be more round. Previous iterations purposely had an egg shape that was supposed to be forced round by the scope tube as it was clamped into place. I think this placed a lot of extra stress on the areas where the screws thread into on the bottom and where they pass through the top strap, as this was where most of them seemed to have troubles. So, perhaps they're better now? Haven't used a set in some time.

I wouldn't touch any of their aluminum stuff.
But their steel rings are some of the toughest made.

If I had to go aluminum it would be Warne Mountain Tech or Leupold Mark 4. I do have 34mm aluminum Mark 4s on one gun now cause that was the lowest version I could fine. They are tough.

Thanks guys, just confirming my gut feeling smile
i have a source that says their rail and LW stuff is extruded aluminum.

coupl happy meals more i'm running better metal. ez choice.

running extruded aluminum rings to save weight but extra metal (steel) on the shank of the barrel makes no sense to me.
