Nice, Huntsman! When you get tired of ranching, you should be a photographer. You know how to pose things.
another this morning.
lest I get accused of posing the same critter with different guns.....
I should have taken a pic of the coyote I shot yesterday evening. Coulda been front page news
I’ve never seen a more spotted cat than this one around here.
TRW, That's a nice cat, I killed this one this morning little bigger but not as colorful, older Male. Rio7
Usually all I kill is rabbit backed cats. I was pleasantly surprised when this one came sneaking in.
I'd have something to add but my cell phone is laying out on the eastern plains of Colorado somewhere.
Jealous of you guys with bobcats. They're not exactly rare but hardly plentiful up here - to the point where you have a tag for 1 of them like deer. Such neat critters.
Nice cats TW.. and Rio. Just started on them on the ranch and two have been taken not nearly as pretty as those. I’ve gotta get the pic thing taken care of here and get them up.
Did see one very large lion track as well. A call will be put in to the hound guys by that ranch owner.

You planning on a trip to look for it?
I spent 3 hours looking for it already. With enough snow that I was able to backtrack myself pretty well, but yet I couldn't find it. And unfortunately, it's in a spot with no cell service, so making it ring wasn't an option. It's a gone'er
Shot two hogs last Thursday night. Twas misting cold rain and fog was coming in. Did not care to look for the pigs. Looked a bit on Friday but no carcasses.
Did nail a fox later in the eve
Shot 2 Javelina, recovered one.
First I've ever taken after dark.
Anywho, its a start!
ya!
GWB
I don't think I've seen such a nice stack of pale dogs.
Congrats
Must get alot of snow up there, them coyotes have good snow camouflage....

It's probably right next to your sunglasses. 🤣🤣
Boar I killed last week in Mississippi.
Rem. what caliber you using?

Thanks. Dark younger dog not the norm for the area. Sat a long ways out thinking he was good to go. The .243 proved otherwise.
Have spotted one with literally a black neck, shoulders to face. Gene pool eradication efforts are in place.

For sure. You’d be hard pressed to find prettier dogs than the ones from Alberta and Saskatchewan. There are a few here and there but for overall consistency those provinces are unbeatable.
Osky
Thanks Rem. Coyote above looks just like typical eastern coyote, nothing special about it. Just another sub-species.
Wind laid and the sun was out this evening so I headed to make a calling stand before dark. Got to the place and saw a bunch of black spots out in a stubble field 3/4 of a mile away. Swapped the 17 for the AR and made a sneak.
These two and six of their buddies didn’t make it.
62gr Hornady SPs over 748.
Dammit! I got some catching up to do!
I had killed exactly one pig since September, pathetic I know but I’d had other stuff going on. My running game shooting has suffered, took me 12 shots to kill 8
I havent killed any since November, killed a bunch then. Headed south in March, so that'll be my first foray for 2024.
A November pig for effect....
Ingwe, do you fly or drive down to TX?
Ingwe, do you fly or drive down to TX?
I drive...I go down at least twice a year. Driving costs the same as flying but without the hassles. I can take as many guns as I want, and bring back coolers full of meat. The other difference between flying and driving is time, but I'm retired so I've got the time.
Pic for the hell of it...
Some one said you get more points for the spotted pigs 233# stinks to high heaven. Rio7
That's an ugly boar. You guys drop off the stinkers for coyote bait?
Nice work on the hogs men!
JPro,
The big boar I posted had been out all night and stank like hell anyway. I cut him open and left him. My brother shot a 130 lb. younger boar a couple of days before mine that we made sausage with.
Ingwe, if you come through Oklahoma, give me a holler.

I always go through the panhandle, but there aint nobody there!
This is a pretty good one for my neck of the woods. He weighed 235lbs.

Pretty good hog anywhere despite what some will tell you about those 300# hogs.
A good set of scales would open a lot of eyes.

Good last day in iowa a few weeks ago.

Yeah, the scale doesn't lie. I though he was a little over 250 when I first saw him. He's an old one. To bad his cutters were busted off at the bases. from the size of the base they would have been Big.
A nice batch yesterday.
I called behind a farm yard I hadn’t called before. At one point I had 3 big white Pyrenees and 6 coyotes milling around me chasing each other. Shot angles into the ranchers cows and the dogs only let me shoot one coyote that stand. But it was a fun circus to be a part of.
Nice bag of coyotes! What caliber?
Thanks. It’s a 222 Rem Mag with shooting Hornady 40 gr vmax at 3900fps.
I’d call that a good start. Well done.
Got the unlucky 7 this evening.

Give me a chance to catch up!
You better hurry your ass down to TX, I’m going in the morning to lengthen the lead.
Are you covering a lot of open/mixed farm country or are you just that wrapped up in pigs? Killing 3 or 4 with a rifle here is tough due to all the wooded area and cover.

Schitt! I can't get my show on the road till early March! Save me some!
Pic for effect...
Got sidetracked hunting elk and didn’t go chase pigs. Cow gave me the slip and the two bulls, a 7x5 and 7x none stood around gawking like they knew season was over for them. Shot a coyote as consolation prize. Look close on the skyline and the two bulls are up there.

I hunt a mix of farmland and creek bottoms. All just luck of the draw poking around known haunts or places guys tell me they saw pigs on recently. I don’t bait them or anything, just put my nose in the wind and creep through the cover listening for them. Then try to position myself where they have to cover some open ground to get away when the shooting starts.
The bunch yesterday had about a dozen in it and I was able to drive them away from the creek bottom into a quarter section of native grass with plum thickets. After the initial mele I just kept after the escapees and jumped them again.

400yds
Called her in to about 40 yds, he got a little too excited and missed his shot, dear ol dad put the training wheels on her while she was running at about 100 yds and as she stopped to bite her Texas heart shot wounds he put another in her.
Outstanding! Love to see the kids getting out there.
The wind was in our favor with this dog.
18 steps from our stand to where it dropped.
Impulse 22-250/Pulsar XP50 LRF.
The LRF wasn't needed.
Caught this pair bumping ugly's in the cow pasture. Rio7
Awesome. Great looking coyotes. Thanks.
Recently set up a thermal rig and got my first confirmed fawn eater with it tonight. 150 yards.
Called coyotes yesterday in the mud and window rolled down. Unseasonably warm here
Excellent. Will you sell the hides?
No they were gathered and discarded.
Some times this job STINKS !! Rio7
3 more swine were unalived on my way home this evening.
Did a little calling after dark with my FLIR thermal works great. Rio7
Twofer last night.
Head Shot ---Rio7
BEAUTIFUL coyotes as always!
Took my son out last weekend and he shot his first critter other than a deer. I called him in this cat and it seemed it took him 5 minutes to shoot it. My gun doesn’t fit him very well but he clipped its chin and blew her chest out. I was and still am super excited.
Few less trash pandas and Garfield. We are run over with freaking feral cats.
Good shooting. Congrats to your son! First of many I’m sure.
Thanks Remington. I’ve created a monster. But it’s better than him play dang video games.
got an invite from a rancher friend this weekend wanting to thin the coyotes before calving starts.

Nice, that sure looks like a lot of fun.
Nice work TR. Days like that will put your on your rancher friend's Christmas Card list...
Been doing a little trapping on the South ranch. 3 Coyotes 2Coons and a Badger not a bad morning, Rio7
Kilt a couple more bandits the other evening with my boy. This was the bigger of the two.

Do you ever get the boy on any hogs?
He missed that one about 10 minutes before I killed it. We Indianed up on them feeding in the stubble and he somehow whiffed it at 75 yards. They scurried out further into the field and we gave chase, caught up to them 500 yards later. By then it was too dark to make them out for him so he told me to shoot. We’ll get one soon. I think he gets buck fevered up worse on pigs than deer.

Good last day in iowa a few weeks ago.
Very nice Tj
I haven't seen many pics like that from recent years...
Appears I have a mange issue in my AO, second one in about a week.
No mange today.
Played Peek A Boo with this Badger in a snare I had set for a Bobcat, every time I got a bead on him he ducked before I could shoot, finally I walked over to look down in his hole and shoot him, and the ground gave away and I fell in up to my Waist in the hole with a pissed off Badger, ever seen a Old Man Crawl out of a Hole like his tail was on fire with a Badger trying to chew the soles of his shoes off?? Rio7
California ain’t all bad..
Treed this varmint 5 times with my buddy’s young pups, so dang fun. Perfect pup training cat
Congrats on the cat Ben! Where did you shoot your pigs, it certainly wasn't Montucky....

Blued and Walnut kind of day.
Jim,
It's a Browning 1885 Low Wall in .243, out of production now under the Browning name but being churned out periodically under the Winchester banner.
Sweet, svelte little rifle, weighs dick nothing. 24 inch barrel feels like 18 due lack of receiver. I get over 3100 fps with an 87 V-Max.
Back to plastic today...
Out with the dogs
First ground hogs of the year.
Been playing cat and mouse with this guy for a couple weeks and his luck ran out today.
82 yards, 150 grain ELDX ( I know, I know it’s overkill but it’s what I had in the truck ) The ELDX opened him up pretty good.
Next one was out back of my house, later today, near my range. Had time to grab the 6x6.8 loaded with 70 NBT and take the shot out the back door. Told the wife she’d better hold her ears. Lol. No exit on this one.
They don’t drag as easy through the mud as the snow. But they still come to a dying rabbit.
Pretty saddle gun there, Ben !!!
Out with the dogs
Is that dog breedin' that yote - or eatin' that yote?
Fetching the fox, jumping over the fence.
First thermal two-fer. Lined them up and got both with one shot.
Snared this sow the next morning!
ya!

Had a good day P-dog hunting with my son
Good job on the feral dogs. They aren't a good thing to have around at calving time....or any time.
It's been a few years since we had an infestation of the damned things. It got so bad and they got so spooked that I and neighbor resorted to wolf snares.
been slow here in Northern Minnesota 20 starlings with a 22 LR , 22 K-Hornet smacked 1 possum , 2 feral cats
Nearly "mist" that one. Always use enough gun.

ya. 4 pitbulls in my corrals one morning and was not quick enuff to swat them all. The other 2 are hanging out on the neighbors ranch now, 3 miles north of me. And he hasn't been able to get them yet, either..... If they come back, I'll deal with it.

Nice work. I know of a meth producing place that used to have three very nasty Rots.. that became an issue to neighboring ranches and ranchers. After that experiment the methers tried another pair of big nasty whatever’s….. a few months ago they were found running beef.
Not sure what those people will try next for dogs.

What's a Mether? Or is that what you boys down your way refer to what we call Methheads up here in OR?
Did this one a favor... Thought the same statement, BEFORE I even got to the bottom on the post....
you did a favor for any animal, that might be anywhere near him.... especially someone's dogs.
A little pest control at camp last weekend
that's a beautiful rifle. Details?
