Got back from a couple of days away visiting a mate took the newly built Tikka 270wsm 28”carbon wrapped bartlien barrel 1in 8” twist sitting in a McMillan game hunter stock ,shooting 170grain Bergers at 3130fps , great setup have a lot to learn with the kestrel the wind played hell was gusting 25-35km an hour it was killing us taking a reading then changing angle or just not being in the direct wind to get an accurate reading , the drops were perfect at all ranges, first arvo we missed several stags just not holding enough wind out to 650 yards even a mil hold wasn’t enough! , next day the wind was no better so we opted for a closer gully and got afew small ones you can see down low it was a .1mil hold but the higher animals it was moving over half an animal the last stag I held just in front of his back leg and just missed his neck it was 500yards I got a doe off film and it hit abit far back holding on the front of the shoulder at about 420yards , left us with a lot of lessons learnt and quite afew animals that the local hound hunter took for his dogs , plenty of deer about would’ve seen 30 in just three gullies you can see from the house , the bush is dry and the farm is very attractive to them atm , sorry for the paddock talk I’m not quite bolt action productions at this stage but it shows abit of action
Great clip.
I used a .270 Weatherby for a few years and it walloped the smaller Aussie game to a noticeable point. Loaded it up to 160gn Partitions but never got the chance to try it on sambar. My buds were favouring the 9.3x62 back then so the mindset wasn't favorable to calibers under .30 back then either.
I used a 270 WSM on elk loaded with 160 grain Partitions. Results are about the same as your video shows.
