Was perusing Cabelas website and an original 1895 .405 appeared today. Sure is nice looking, although I would say it's refinished because it looks too good for a 112 year old rifle. It's not a Bubba job, wood to metal fit is nice and metal markings don't appear washed out. The buttplate isn't what typically shows up, but hard rubber was available for the asking.

Nice!
Definitely reblued and refinished, but nicely done

Yeah, I'm sure it is. If that were the original finish/condition it'd be worth 3 times that price.

I looked at a 405 1895 at a gun show a couple of years ago, well used asking 900.00, I was about to buy it till I looked down the barrel. 80% of the rifling was gone in it! The dealer replied but it's a 405! I PASSED

That is a nice one. I saw an original 405 at a show recently for 4800, if i didnt already have a TD in 405 it would have been coming home with me! All the bores of the 405s I have seen have been in great shape. I wouldnt think they were shot very much. They hurt at both ends!!

Ha, whats if feel like to carry an extra $4800 around?

Now you know I would have tried to haggle him down!

Cabelas put another nice .405 online. It makes the first one in this post seem like a good deal! Someone bought that one pretty quick, this one may stick around awhile.

That one was mine. Cabelas bought it and a whole bunch of other guns from me at Tulsa.

This one is a complete Turnbull restoration from when it was him doing most of the work.

Not shot much and I only got rid of it because I just can't shoot those sights anymore.

They also took it's little sister in 30-40 Krag from me. Not a restoration, but in really great shape.

I kept the twin SxS Francotte rifles in the same calibers..... They have red dot sights mounted by JJ Peradou that I can see and still hunt with!

That's pretty interesting that Cabelas shop the gun shows. I always thought they just ripped people off that wandered in. At least that's what I gather from the one I shop at. (they brag about it) They should advertise it as a Turnbull restoration, it might justify the asking price a bit better.
