I could've swore I read a thread or 2 here where folks talked about the success they have had with this bullet in 30/06.

I have now ordered 3 boxes and can't find the threads/info.

Who is using this bullet in 30/06 and what has been your experience?

Thanks!!

For me they've worked on:

Mule deer (.308 Win)
Blacktail deer (.308 & '06)
Dall sheep (300 WSM)
Nope those won't work in your 30/06.
But good news! I can probably take them off your hands. ;^)

Anyone have any favorite loads with this bullet?

I know, start low, every rifle is different, etc....

In case you are unaware.

I use them in 06’s and 300 Weatherby. I use 165’s in 300 Win mags. I don’t know why, guess that’s all I had at the time. Barnes are accurate in all of them.

I used to shoot 180 Partitions or 180 Sierra ProHunters in three pre-'64 Model 70s, one of which is a featherweight. I almost always used H4350 but tried H4831. It worked as well as H4350 but required compressed loads. Several years ago, I was working with the 150 TTSX BT in a .300 Winchester Magnum (Rem. 700) and a .300 H&H Magnum (pre-'64 M70). This bullet shot very well in both guns. I decided to try it in the .30-06s using H4895 powder. The Barnes was noticeably more accurate than the Partition and ProHunter. The 150 TTSX is all I use in .30-06 now and also in a .308 NULA. Took my best elk so far with this bullet in the .308.
Very accurate and great performance. Wouldn't be afraid to use them from mice to moose. Have killed a boatload of deer with them, some hogs and pronghorn. Powdered with whatever was handy, IMR4320, H4895, probably some others. Go forth and slay.

30-06 and a 150? There are many powders that will work very well.

With lead cored bullets 52 grains of IMR 4064 is a classic load. A little workup and it's almost certain you can find a sweet spot with the TTSX.

I only use those bullets in all my hunting rifles. 30.06, 260 Rem (the real 6.5 CM), 223.

My favorite load in my rifle on my equipment, blah, blah, blah....

Varget 50.5g, 150g TTSX, LC brass, fed match primers, 2919fps out of a pre64 win m70 super grade. Everything I shot a deer with that load and rifle, the 1953 Win says wish I had that load when I was young....

Used to use SSTs, AMax and large bucks would go 100 yards and die, with Barnes, the does flop over, the bucks drop and generally never go more that 30 yards.

Sounds like Varget and 4064, so far...

60 grains of H4350 in Win cases and F210 primer has been very good

Max load of H4350. Nothing will stop it. Hot knife in butter. IME prolly to much damage. But if you wanta anchor an elk or black bear in extreme country? Done deal. I’m running 62gr H4350 @ 3040fps. Flat out way lays anything it hits.
Posted By: sbhooper Re: Barnes TTSX 150gr 30/06 - 10/29/20
I don't load Barnes, but 58 grains of IMR4451 produces 3000 fps from an old Savage -06, using 150 Interlocks. The Barnes should be every bit as good.

I like IMR 4350 in my 30-06’s.
Posted By: Hammerdown Re: Barnes TTSX 150gr 30/06 - 11/04/20
That bullet works well in my 30-06 I used Hunter powder.
My rifle has a 1-11 inch twist 3 grove.

In my experience, Barnes bullets shoot better when driven fast with approx .050 jump to the lands. Good luck!

I tried 55 grains of Ramshot Big Game with 3 150 grain bullets just to find what my Weatherby Mark V liked in that weight range. The NAB, HIB and the TSX the NAB and HIB were .030 off the lans +-. The TSX was lightly crimped in the shortest channel . The TSX provided the best accuracy by a good bit 5 in an inch 3 at .5. Have not gotten around to revisit yet but I suspect it will be a great hunting load.

I would think a few additional powders in that range would provide similar results.

Good luck and shoot straight y'all.

Love it. I used factory Barnes ammo .30-06 150 gr. last year on a white tail. Shot accurately in my rifle. 170 yd. shot. The deer was slightly angling away. Hit just behind the shoulder and took out the opposite shoulder. The projectile exited. DRT. Flat and fast.

I don’t remember the load I first worked up with 150s in my .30/06. It worked great. Somehow, many moons ago, I found a sale or something and bought a box of the factory Vortex 150s. They shot to the same place. I get pretty busy with work and family and I load for 4-5 other rifles so I have just been shooting the factory stuff. Great results! 2 elk, DRT, a few pronghorns and I have honestly lost count of the whitetails. Generally, if you shoot shoulder(s) it is bang-flop and behind the shoulder, heart/lungs results in an easy to follow, short blood trail.

Earlier this summer, I bought 3 boxes of the Vortex loads, shot a few at the range, and put the rest in a 50 round plastic box. I figure I am good to go for a few years. I enjoy shooting and hunting with other rifles and rounds but if I had to eliminate all but one rifle/load combo, this would be it.

I'm about to get these loaded up today.

I'm going to start with IMR 4350.

Wish me luck!!

Because of shortages, I ended up with Hornady GMX's (which don't get much love here). In 2 rifles with 22" bbls, After doing some initial tinkering with more traditional 150 gr powders with faster burn rates with mediocre results...I moved to slower powders. Win. cases, WLR primers, fill case to bottom of the bullet with VV N160 or RL19 (H4831 SC will work too as will probably anything in that burn rate) etc. Consistent 5 shot grps no larger than 1.3 moa, and occasionally down to .8 moa., velocities averaging around 2900 fps. I don't chase seating depth, but seat to allow trouble free feeding from the mag box on pre 64 Win. FW and Rem 30 Express.

In my youth IMR 4895, 4064 and 3031 always produced sub-MOA groups. New powders such as Varget with better bullets should do the same.

You will do well that powder
Posted By: BamaCKC Re: Barnes TTSX 150gr 30/06 - 11/15/20
So, I ended up starting out with h4895... nothing to write home about. Best group was 1.34"

Probably should've started with the 4350

There was a thread here somewhere about a magic load of 62.5gr of Superformance with the 150 TTSX and how it shot in every 30-06 the poster had tried it in. I loaded some up and gave it a try. Shot 3/4” groups that were already hitting in the bullseye without adjusting the scope. Just loaded up a half dozen more and I am going to test them on our deer opener Saturday. Quite sure I can tweak it down but It is more than accurate enough to use right now. I will play with it more after season barring any disappointments on game.
Posted By: BamaCKC Re: Barnes TTSX 150gr 30/06 - 11/21/20
Yep, I finally found the thread again. I loaded up some today with superformance. I hope to test them out tomorrow.
New Rifle, Savage 110 Ultralite in 06 with the Proof barrel. So far no real winners in the load data. Have 150 grain TSX and 165 grain Nosler Accubonds. Was hoping to use the TSX but so far mediocre accuracy. Superformance powder...that is a no go up here in Alberta...might be able to score some H4350 but waiting, have CFE3223, IMR 4064, Stabal 6.5, RL-22, RL-17, RL-15, I want to drive those 150's as fast as possible but need them under one inch.
I am using 5 -6 times fired WW brass, it is getting pretty tired as well this was shot in another rifle. I have 200 Lapua brass coming this week as well as a bushing die for a little less neck tension. Can old brass give you fits?

I've used the 168 grain TTSX in the .30-06 and the 150 grain in the .308. My son and I killed a bunch of animals with them last fall in Mozambique, including Sable, Waterbuck, Nyala, Kudu and Reedbuck. We had great performance from both bullets. I've also used the 168 grain TTSX on elk and it worked well. I shot a 5 point bull and it only went about 30 yards.

If I were to use the 150 grain TTSX in a 30-06 I would start with Ramshot Big Game. In the .308 I use TAC.
Posted By: Kenneth Re: Barnes TTSX 150gr 30/06 - 03/21/23
52.5 grains of Varget gets around 2950 with 150 TSX, generally .7 or .8 for 3 shot groups, back .050

My next choice is 58 to 59 grains with IMR or H 4350, not quite has accurate has the Varget though.

Again, this is with the TSX.

Tremendous bullet in 06. Friend of mine took his ‘06 to africa with him when we went over. He and his wife killed a bunch of stuff with it including kudu, gemsbok and zebra. Never used that combo personally but have shot a few deer with 130ttsx in my 308 and it’s a real buzz saw.

These loads all shoot under 1" in my Rem. 700 BDL that has been rebarreled to 24".

50.5gr. H4895
52gr. IMR-4064
58gr. Big Game

H4895 load is just under 3k fps, the other 2 clock just over 3k fps if that is important to you.

Only killed 2 animals so far with 150gr.TTSX. Mule deer doe at 242yds and antelope doe at 168yds. Both fell at the shot and bullets exited.
I have decided to use the 4064 load as it shoots best in my gun and is now my mice to moose load.

Just for fun, I also have 130gr. TTSX bullets. Haven't shot them yet but have a couple of loads ready to try!

Imagine that, a 30-06 that likes 52 grains of 4064 and a 150. grin
