How would you rate these fixed 4 power scopes?

Do they rate well compared to the old Leupold M8 4X33?

May be the best scope Leupold has ever made.

I have two of them bought NIB maybe 5-6 years back at an estate sale and plan to finally take them out of their boxes and do something with them.

I had a Rem Classic 6.5 Swede mounted with a M8 4X way back in the '90s and thought it a great combo. Stupidly sold rifle and scope in a moment of weakness.

Love a fixed scope.

I have one of these and mounted it on a fwt 30-06. I was very pleasantly surprised on how nice it was and what a nice package that rifle/scope turned into.

Good scope with a good field of view. With that said I’ve got mine stuck in a tote somewhere. I passed on a good buck at last legal light that was clear as could be in my binoculars but I couldn’t pick up well enough to make an ethical shot with that scope. Legal light, cloudy day, heavy woods.

I have one mounted on a Ruger #3 in 223. I have no complaints with it.

This. I've used several M-8s and several FX-IIs. Most were on 308/30-06-class rifles but I did kill a bull Roosevelt elk with an FX-II on a Browning Safari in 338 WM.

My only beef with the FX-II is the shorter tube, which limits your options for eye relief unless you use extension rings. Great scopes.

I've had an M8, 4X since the late 80's. I've got two FXII scopes. I've had them hold zero and the reticles hold up quite well when slammed to the hard ground. Happened more than once.
They are plenty bright for low light work. But one needs a heavier reticle than their standard medium duplex. The M8, for instance, has a Post & Duplex Reticle that works fine in any legal light. E

I have a M8 4x33 and for many years it was my spare scope that I mounted on new rifles until I got another scope. I had it on at least one .257 Roberts, Ruger #1 303, 35 Whelen, 8x57, 7x57 and it has now found a permanent home on my 9.3x62. Every time I took it off a rifle I wondered why I just didn't leave it on. I used it on my Whelen to shoot pigs at 200m plus and the other blokes wondered how the hell I could see them. They needed 9x and more on their rifles. I meant to buy another one but I guess I do prefer straight 6x scopes and have a few of them both M8 and FXII.

One of my favorites. Never felt the need for more power on an '06 or .270. Here's one on a Marlin .308 Express

The only straight 4x I see listed on the Leupold site is for rimfire rifles.

No. Leupold discontinued their FX II 4X for centerfires a year or two ago.

I had a Leupold FX11 4x33 mounted on my 375 Rem Ultra Mag. I couldn't mount it back far enough so changed it for a older Leupold VX11 2-7 x33 which was a far better scope for that application.

I'm not a stock crawler, and the thing that gripes me is that even with low or extra-low extension rings we still run into the issue of the taper on the objective hitting the base and limiting rearward movement. This the very thing that I run into with Talleys: even their extra-low extended front limits further rearward movement since their base is pretty thick and the ocular hits it. I'm not sure why it - or any front base - couldn't be slimmed down or at least tapered in the front to allow for a bit more rearward movement.

May mot be applicable, but I have a FX II 4x28 pistol scope on a .44 mag Ruger I just rigged up. Expect it to work out well for that use.

They are a challenge when mounting on/for a long action. I had one on a Ruger .257 Roberts UL. About as good as it gets on a woods rifle, and for me out to about 300. Then my eyes got to old for that scope. Like dingo, I have since moved to a VX 2, 2-7X33
