Been casting for the 22LR Centerfire project, AKA the 22GTC, a brainchild of DDs....

He suggested I try a little softer alloy, so blended a few bars to try....

I had found and bought a new mould I've been looking for, 311-041 plain base, for my 300BO, a 6 holer....

They turned out pretty nice.... couple of wrinkles I need to cull...

That's a nice looking bullet. Shot any yet?

For breech seating .22LR I found 1:40 tin:lead to give me better accuracy over 1:20 & 1:30. Been meaning to try straight lead, I figure at this point it probably won't matter. (Haven't taken the ultimate step to .22GTC yet. The penultimate step has me stalled: many thousands of empty primed .22LR brass.) Old Lyman/Ideal mold #225230 plain base 45gr., as-cast .226", lubed with Javelina Schuetzen. Way better accuracy breech seated than stuffed into a case, but Lordy it's like threading a needle!

Haven't shot any yet.................. but will report back.

Who made that .30 mold? Aluminum , brass, or iron? Assume you do like DD and lean toward soft binary alloys for your low-vel PB loads? Guessing that wrinkles went away after mold got broken-in, last traces of oil/cutting fluid got burned away and temps got up to snuff all around?

More tin? Probably not necessary. Basing that on what appears to be good driving band/base fill-out even on the wrinkly ones.

Listen to gnoahhh. If the wrinkles aren't gone by now I would only suggest a little more heat.

It's an aluminum mould, I actually cast some harder stuff with it prior, but this day I just grabbed it and started casting, the first few were wrinkled, but it settled down after it warmed up.... as expected.

Made some nice bullets though....

I do lean toward a softer alloy.... nothing quite like soft Pb...

This was back when I was PP 45-70 top mushroom is 450gr, bottom 500, shot into damp sand, at around 12-1300FPS....

Kinda makes me glad I wasn't on the receiving end during the Civil War....

Don't really want to be shot with anything, but these would be brutal, IMHO..

It's a LEE mould, been looking for PB 311-041..... first one I've run across.
