The cabbage MUST be sliced, not chopped (especially not in some damned machine).

Horrible rubbish. Full of sugar.

Coleslaw's easy to make. Get a cabbage, shred it with a sharp knife, and mix in your favourite dressiing. Mine's a simple vinaigrette (Dijon mustard, extra virgin olive oil and cider vinegar, shake until emulsified). No need to over-complicate it.

YMMV.

Gosh....you can make your own????

My mom used to add a.little crushed pineapple once and awhile and it was tasty!

Pards sister makes the oily vinegar type.

Best I have ever had and I always preferred the creamy style.
Posted By: Jim_Conrad Re: Holy grail of coleslaw - 01/28/23
Never heard of the oily type.

Bride has the recipe. May see iffn she will hunt it down at some point.
Posted By: 5sdad Re: Holy grail of coleslaw - 01/28/23
My oily is equal parts oil and sugar with half as much vinegar as each of them and celery salt run in a mini-blender for a bit.

Whatever recipe you use… take out all the sugar

Quadruple the apple cider vinegar

Add lots of horseradish

Fine cut some cabbage & a carrot or two... Stir in just enough Miracle Whip to make it almost but not quite wet... Now add equal parts of vinegar & sugar and a pinch or two of salt to taste (i start with a 1/4 cup of each for a half head of cabbage)... You can add celery seed if you like... Or a little yellow mustard for BBQ sandwich's...

Good slaw is hard to beat on a burger too.

Slaw and cheese only.

Best Vinegar & Oil Coleslaw i've ever had is a recipe called Mary Lee's "I fought the Slaw And the Slaw Won"... From the Jack Daniels Old Time Barbeque Cookbook by Vince Staten... It's the fuqkin' Bomb on pulled pork Sandwiches...
POOL ROOM SLAW

Original recipe from Bill's Pool Hall Fayetteville Tennessee

Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar
2 chopped heads of cabbage
1 tablespoon salt
4 1/2 cups sugar
1 quart mustard
3 large onions
1 tablespoon pepper

Instructions
Use a food processor to chop all ingredients medium-fine
Put ingredients in a large pan and just bring to a boil.
Put slaw and burger on bun.
Add a slice of cheese if desired
The traditional way of eating this is without any other condiments.
Put the rest of the slaw in jars and seal.
It does not have to be refrigerated until opened.

This is the "slawburger" in the Kentucky Headhunters song "Dumas Walker's".

I make this stuff a gallon at a time and seal it in pint Mason jars. About a 6 month supply. Good on burgers or hot dogs.

There is KFC/Taco Bell in Tappahannock I used to grab for a snack/bathroom break.

Last time I was in there... the filthy staff and the nastyass broke dick patrons made me say... NEVER AGAIN.

Local Hardees is about all I visit anymore here...

Grocery store Coleslaw isn't bad depending on the store...

We have a local BBQ shop that does a white horseradish sauce... it is great stuff on meat... even better on fish cakes.
