On Saturday I went to purchase a new Polaris ATV. I had the deal negotiated to my satisfaction and was ready to finalize it when a man strolled past me and the salesman and blurted out loud "Are you really going to buy that made in Mexico crap made with mostly china parts". I was shocked, as I thought they were made in the USA. As I am all about each of us doing our part to "buy American", I decided to hold off until I researched his claim. I did not leave there with a Polaris.

It's not that I have a problem with "made in Mexico" per say, it's the fact that Polaris is moving or has moved ATV manufacturing there. As far as this American is concerned, they can just let the Mexicans purchase their ATV's!

I know GM and Ford make some cars in Mexico and thats ok only because they still employ thousands of Americans and only make a small percentage of thier products there.

To save a few bucks,I read Polaris closed down the factory and layed off over 515 American workers and now builds their ATV's in Mexico.

The CEO of Polaris recently said that the American people wouldn't care that the ATVs were made in Mexico! Well, I'm speaking up as one American who DOES CARE! Polaris will not get a single cent of my money. I have owned Polaris products in the past, but no more. I guess its Artic Cat for me!

If Artic cat and others can make there ATV's here, why can't Polaris? confused
Same reason that GovtMotors stole taxpayer money through repayment of Union graft.

Because they can, and did.
Good for you more should follow in your steps
I will come out and tell you that i guarentee that the atv you have looked at was not made in mexico! The reason for Polaris having a plant down south of the border is for exporting mainly to other countries where they were not able to send products before! Good Luck with your Polaris. It will be a great quality machine!
Just how many ATV's are actually made in America?

You are SO WRONG.

except the ones that aren't.

So you got all the paperwork ready before you did any research and then listened to some random dude walking through the showroom, who was probaly a Ski-doo rep?

Call the boys up in Roseau, MN and see how they're doing on the Mexican ATV's they're building in the good 'ol US of A.

Hondas are made in Timmonsville, SC, unless something has changed recently.
By brand or how many manufactures? And polaris does have 2 factories in the U.S that build atv's and other products. the other japanese makers also have factories in the U.S. Yes some components are made elsewhere but alot of the parts are made in the U.S. just as every other thing you now see in stores are made elsewhere too.

How would you know? whistle grin

You guys respond with such conviction. Almost like you would know what you're talking about.

I'm willing to wager the OP never did look at a Polaris product.
very trollish indeed.

guy hops on here with a bunch of wild stories, stirring the pot with a big ole spoon.
Do you know hondas are assembled in tennesee. the parts are not made in the U.S. Some parts are made in the U.S for them but very little. What kind of Vehicle do you drive.
And who makes the ATV's for all branches of the U.S military! Its Polaris. Because they are the #1 Recreational vehicle maker in the World.

Yawn. The first engine you should consider starting is a danged SEARCH ENGINE.

POLARIS ATVS Made in Mexico? So that's what those illegal immigrants have been carrying on their backs - parts for the Polasis ATV's!

I've seen "Border Wars" on TV and oberved illegals carrying bales on their backs. I thought it was illegal drugs, but now I know better.

Aren't Honda's assembled in Marysville Ohio. I used to visit the Marysville plant on business and watched them being assembled there, as were Honda motorcycles. I know that Nilssons are assembled in TN.

grin
You golf course ball washers make more money than the course pro leads on.

Nice try though.
Somebody is right and somebody is wrong here about Polaris building their product in the US. Let's hear it? No BS, just fact.

And GM using tax dollars to save US jobs has nothing to do with where ATV's are made.

If you don't know what you are talking about and do not declare it, you are a troll.

atv news

I did not make it up. here is the link azzwipe.

Straight from the horses mouth. Boy you guys like to call people liers!!!!

polaris
and obviously you have not heard that polaris DECIDED to keep that plant running and operating. It sold part of the business' they did their and actually kept it going with the same people. so very few people actually lost their jobs. Others actually moved to another polaris Facility.
Either your reading skills are off a bit or your comprehension is out of whack.

First off that's a may 2010 article, correct me if I'm wrong buschpilot but didn't polaris decide to keep the Osceola site up and running since this story ran over a year ago?

Couldn't be Bristoe. He said he'd never return.
So you are telling me Polaris does not make ATV,s in Mexico.
It's capitalism doing what capitalism does best. The company is doing exactly what companies are supposed to do - trying to maximize profits for it's share-holders.

I love my Polaris 850 - it's (by far) the best Quad I have ever owned or ridden on. It's scary fast, has an incredibly comfortable suspension and due to the fact the V is located "sideways" it's much narrower between the legs compared to other quads. If it's anything like my previous Sportsman 500 - it'll never see the inside of a shop. My last, as well as my new Quad have been absolutely reliable.

I can't understand why anyone would buy a Polaris. There are many better products.

Not all. My 2005 was, then I was disappointed when my 2010 Big Red was delivered and it was made in...... Mexico.

I'm telling you like buschpilot is telling you, they make some in mexico, not ALL like you said, far from it.

No. Polaris does have a plant in mexico. those products are shipped south. Its very funny how well Polaris is doing in the world actually being #1 in ATV's for people thinking they are junk. As far as better products, i'd like to see them. When everyone is trying to catch up to Polaris.

Just go ahead and buy the dam thing!!!!! I bought my wife a new Cadillac SRX made in Mexico without knowing it was made in Mexico, my bad..... It is turning out to be a great car has great fit and finnish we love it. grin
I should have reserched it better my bad... Sometimes I get a little carried away, I apologize. So which ones are made in Mexico?
Polaris ATV's will nickle and dime you to death with small repairs. They do have a very comfortable ride, but they have to stop making the frames out of iron ore as they are also the heaviest quads in their class.
the ones that are going south of the border. they actually have made very few machines yet. the cadillacs are made right down the road from the polaris plant in mexico. and its funny how all the white blooded americans they have working in that Polaris plant to keep the quality of its products top notch that has made them #1. Polaris build a state of the art plant and most of the people working there are actually skilled and College graduates from mexico that are trying to make a living. Do not be afraid of the machines. They go through many checks I am sure of that.
I think the cadillac plant is rated # 7 in the world for quality control, and in problems per car made. Thats no small task.

Dude...kids read this stuff sometimes. One might accidently believe that.
LMAO
I had to put a belt on my '97 Sportsman the other day. Junk Polaris wink
You must not ride it much grin
Maybe the Mexican ones will stay running, the quality can't be any worse than the American ones.
I don't know if my Polaris is any good or not. I purchased it new in 2003 and it just turned 21 miles.
Real ATV's have transmissions, not rubber bands. laugh
Doesnt polaris own arctic cat,anyway?

Public company, large stake owner is Suzuki.
I don't know about all that stuff but I DO know that back in the day - there wasn't a Polaris that I rode with that could hang with my ZR440 Sno-Pro. Very green thanks to the folks in Tuff Rubber Balls, super fast thanks to Black Magic.

LOVED that sled.

You already got the right answer. There are a few guys that answered on this thread that ACTUALY work for them. I'd go with that.
They're good enough.
I bought a new Sportsman 550 last Friday. It has an American flag sticker on the rear fender. That makes it ok, right?

Actually the statement of origin of states date of manufacture, 5/20/11, Minisotie.

It's a love hate deal. Good power, great ride, light steering and decent fuel use. Also kinda like a Harley I may have a good one or a turd! We'll see.

I love Honda but, I'm sick of the crappy ride.

BTW, I kept my '08 Rancher 420, just in case.
Earlier post deleted. I apologize for the rant. I've always had a "shut up" problem. smile
It doesn't answer the question of whether some are made in Mexico or not, but:

One of the most notable facts about Roseau is that it is the birthplace of snowmobiling and Polaris Industries. Today Roseau is still home to the snowmobile and Polaris Industries although today Polaris produces more All Terrain Vechicles (ATVs) than snowmobiles. Visitors to Roseau are invited to
visit the Polaris Industries Assembly Plant and watch snowmobiles and ATVs being built.

http://city.roseau.mn.us/

And while I wouldn't own a Polaris ATV (due to quality issues), you have to give the company some credit for trying to build a decent engine in the good old USA. As far as I'm aware, they're the only snowmobile or ATV maker to do so. Most others come from Japan (or Austria) which isn't a bad thing, but they aren't USA - if that matters. And Honda ATVs, made in Japan, assembled in the USA, are not built to the same high quality they once were when they came completely assembled in Japan.

We picked up a new Yam 450 Grizzly 10 days ago. It's got 385 miles on it now and it seems like a good rig. Hope it lasts as long as your's has. wink

except for the battery
bea175. did you really mean just 21 miles? Maybe 21,000 miles?

I have a good pair of boots and my legs still work. Don't have a bone in this, just curious what is made where.

I worked in that polaris plant for over 12 years, good company, good folks working there.

Arctic cat is a stone's throw down the road and they produce snowmobiles and ATV's as well.

I've been in the thief river falls arctic cat plant several times as well, similar to Roseau with good people earning a paycheck building product without unions. (Neither arctic or polaris is a union shop)

Lund boats is also in MN, Marvin windows, a toro facility, ASV... there are actually a lot of manufacturing facilities in the area.

I get around to as many of them as I can for tours and insight to the different practices, equipment and processes in use.

Polaris is a good company, they make a competitive product too.
