Anyone tried any PPU hunting ammunition? Local store had a box of 90gr .243 soft points for $15, so I picked up a box to try....will be interesting to see how it shoots next to 80 and 100gr Rem Core-Lokts.
I suggest cleaning after shooting. It's not corrosive exactly; just nasty.
I've shot it, shoots about as good as Remington stuff. Bit on the dirty side, but the brass is fantastic for reloading.
I'd like to know how the bullets performed in game too
I tested a box of 150-grain softpoints in 30-06. Not sure about the brass, but I tried it in two rifles and accuracy-wise, it runs neck-and-neck with Federal blue box.

I shoot it with no accuracy complaints. Just never shot game with it and wonder how the bullet is
Picked up a few boxes of .45-70 and it shot good and as others mentioned it is a little on the "dirty" side (not horrible and it didn't seem to affect accuracy). Did have one round with the primer in sideways. Contacted PPU about it and kinda got a run around.....seems like something that they would want to know??? Am going to try and get a whitetail with them this year.

I've shot some in 22 Hornet, 25-06, 6.5x55, 7x57, and 8x57. As previously noted, the PPU ammo that I've shot tends to be dirty, just like S&B, but it shoots OK. The 90 grain 25-06 ammo is really accurate in my Marlin XL7.

I may shoot a round or two through wet newsprint, just to see how the bullet holds up....kind of interested in seeing what velocity it gives out of a 22" barrel.
I have used ppu bullets in 8x57 pass through on deer shoulders also .Loaded up 55 grain ppu softpoints for .223 have not killed anything yet with them .
I use it in 243 and 7mm08. I dont use it for deer but I do use it for hogs and varmits and have killed a bunch with it.
I head shoot hogs and it works fine for me for that.
I can usually find it on sale once a year for about $12 a box in those calibers and will stock up.
I used the standard 140gr SP in 6.5x55 to take a mature buck a couple of years ago. Deer was facing me at close range, bullet entered below white patch and exited the back of the neck. Used the PPU Thunder 158gr in 7x57 this year, killed a 3 1/2 yr old buck as he came through the woods chasing a doe. He showed visible signs of being hit after the first shot but stayed on his feet and continued to run through the woods so I continued to shoot. I shot two more times until he made it into the thick stuff. All three shots exited the rib cage, there was no major bones hit other than ribs. Deer ran about 50 yards after first shot. Both shot sub MOA. I would buy again if the need arises.
I'm sure the bullets used in larger calibers will perform well, especially in smaller animals, but lightweight bullets at higher velocities do tend to have a hard time staying together...especially hitting bone.
I'd love to find it for $12/box, I'd probably buy 10-15 boxes at that price.
