I was wondering how long the throats are on the tikka t3x's in 6.5 creedmoor. Has anyone tried the 107 and 123 class match bullets in theirs? Were you able to reach the lands and have enough bearing surface in the neck?

Every Tikka to pass through my hands has had a LOT of freebore.

My superlite's throat is about .070" longer than my savage.

My .260 had about .250" when loaded to mag length. It is now a long action. My .300 has a long throat too.

Long it is. The only 6.5 bullets I have on hand are the 140 gr Amax, and at touch the begining of the boatail is in line with the neck shoulder junction. In the Tikka it measures 0.057 longer to the lands than the Rem 700 I just sold. With the 700 at 2.860 o.a.l I was 0.035 too long for the Rem mag. With the Tikka I'm touching at 2.917 , and my mag measures 2.974. A better mousetrap for sure.

I touch the lands at 2.915 with the 147 ELD in my Tikka. Works like a champ.

Fun thing is tikkas don’t care.

Tikka load development often goes like this:

Dump powder
Guess at a Coal
Shoot 3.

Oh. They all touch.

Done.

If you enjoy tinkering with seating depth, don’t buy a Tikka.

Im .020" off the lands at 2.915" with the 140 eldm. My rifle isnt finicky though, so i run them at 2.850" so they work in my savage too. The savage is more accurate, but its also a heavier rifle.

Just get a long action mag and bolt stop and don't worry about it.

No need in my rifle. Plenty of room in the mag. Must be a suggestion for the op?

Just ran the maiden voyage of 147's through my CTR this morning. It loved 46.9g RL 26 @ 2.890.

JG, how long is the CTR barrel? Why did you stop at 46.9? 47.0 too hot ? wink

I would think that r26 was too slow for that application but it may be Ok with the heavier bullets?

I stopped at 47.5 and didn't see any obvious pressure signs either. I did not have my chrono with me and am really curious what the velocity is with the 46.9 load. It was one ragged hole so I have to load more a prove it up at 300. My CTR has a 20" bbl.
