Got myself a new Rugerlin.
Installed Midwest Rail, Warne Maxima rings, Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX3i CDS.
Added a Wild West Happy trigger (3.3#).
Started with Hornady gummy bullets. Decent accuracy but literally exploding on steel into shards.
1st shot stripped the paint off and threw shrapnel 3' onto a shootnsee target.
Switched over to Federal Fusions. Really good accuracy, 1.25-1.5 5 shot at 100 from the bench.
A real baby doll to shoot. Recoil is half my 376 steyr.
Insides are very very well Machined, tolerances are super tight.
Next door neighbor has a special kid 13 who I'll slip a pouch of hubba Bubba to and let him work the action for a few hours nonstop. Should smooth it up a good bit.

Sounds like a good one. Heard nothing but great things about the Ruger made Guide Rifles.

The Rugers are quickly gaining a reputation as the best Marlins ever. I've never used the gummy bullets on game, but a friend has. He wasnt impressed. The old Remington 405 grain bullets are hard to beat. I've taken a couple of grizzly with them over the years.
Glad to hear the new 1895 Marlin-Ruger 45-70 rifles are well made. I have been using a Marlin 45-70 since the early 90's and I carry one here in Alaska more then any other rifle. During hunting season I use a scoped bolt action rifle. But, all other times the 45-70 is carried.

A 400 grain super bonded Alaska Bullet Works bullet is comforting when in Alaska fishing, ATV riding, hiking and camping, etc. I can't see my self never having a Marlin 45-70.
May have to just stick with 380gn WFN copper or 405-420gn cast.

Heard the owner is deceased.

Can you still get product?
Unfortunately the original owner of Alaska Bullet Works is deceased. I was able to get what at age 72 should be a life time supply of the heavy jacketed version in 350 and 400 grains.

According to Karl's wife Sandy, a guy from Sitka bought every thing and took it to Sitka over two years ago and no word from him on whether or when he will make the bullets.

Forum contributor and big bear and moose guide, ".458" Phil Shoemaker told me they were very good bullets. He should know if any one does.

I'm not exactly sure how cast bullets will perform in a hammer forged barrel.

Cast will be fine in a hammer forged barrel.
I never tried the gummies. I always shoot the Speer 300 grain. Tbey call it a hollow poi t but it is just a dimple.
I tried the Remi gton 300 JHP but it comes apart in deer at my Marlin load levels.

My 45-70 Marlin could use an extra .1” to feed the cast bullets I like. I understand that there’s a modification that can be made to do this. I wonder if Ruger’s 45-70 will feed a little longer than standard cartridges.

Want to give one a whirl, but they are a bit salty in price. Have they dropped at all?

Got mine at cost, dealer.
I've had a total of 4 in the shop since the press drop. Each one sold for near double MSRP.

I'm about to start loading for my Ruglin 45-70.

I have some of the 405 Remington's headed my way. Makes me think I should get some more.

Where did you find the 405 Remingtons?

You can also gather up the brass from the 325gr Hornady ammo as it is a tenth shorter.

Cocking the hammer and pulling the trigger repeatedly without the hammer making contact will lessen the trigger pull (eventually) if you don't want to polish the sear or add the Wild West trigger.

If your trigger is less than 4#...never mind.
