I have a Remington Model 34 22lr that I was hoping to get functional for the kids. It appears to be missing a side mount rear sight. Any ideas on what this is (peep?) or where I could find one? I was also thinking about drilling scope mount holes, but I don't think that will be possible with how high the bolt is.

Any recommendations on how to get a functional rear site on this rifle?

No dovetail cut in the barrel? Numrich only shows a rear leaf w/elevator.

You could drill the receiver ring for a Weaver base, then mount a small red dot.

They look like the holes may fit a Lyman 55r.

Looks like a nice little rifle, similar to a Winchester 67.

I don't see any dovetail cuts. It does have a front sight, just not a rear. Are you saying the rear sight can be purchased from Numrich?

Probably not new, but if you do a search of Lyman 55R for sale, you might turn one up. I'd also go to the Rimfire Central site and ask on the Remington discussion forum.

OK. I will try to track down a Lyman 55R somewhere. Thanks for the info.

Are there any other options for mounting a scope or a rear sight that would work?

No, they have parts drawings for most guns, but availability is a crapshoot. Now that you know what you need (the 55R), I’d concentrate on that. Keep that nice little rifle original.

Mine is stupid accurate. The rounds are fed straight in with the lifter design. A half inch at 50 yards is pretty easy, with schittey eyes.

EdM,
Thanks for the pics.

Is finding an old 55R my only option for a sight on this rifle? Ebay or Gunbroker best bet?

Thanks!

I was able to find a 55R, but it didn't have the two receiver screws. Any idea on what these screws are? Hoping they are something standard and I can use.

Pretty sure the screws are #4 or #5 filister head. Can't remember the pitch....I'm kinda remembering that they are #4. Been rummaging around for the mounting instructions I have somewhere in my mountain of mess...

The instructions say to use a 1/8 x 40 tap, so it looks like a #5x40 filister head screw. I'll try to get a pic of the instructions up....

Agreed!

benchman,
Thanks for taking the time to dig that up. Very much appreciated.

So, I am looking for a "1/8 x 40 tap, with a #5x40 filister head screw"? Where would one find these screws? Are they specific to gun parts (Numrich?) or other resource?
