I was wondering on a 700 jlock, I am replacing the entire firing pin, shroud etc….a full swap… Going with a gre-tan or a ptg pin (full shroud and all) pre assembled etc…
So do I need to measure the new pin as it Protrudes out of the bolt face? If so, what’s the +/- on that? -or- Does the new assembly need to me measured prior to install? -or- Is it a “plug & play” scenario?
Anyone recommend one mfg over the other? Or a different mfg all together?
I’m looking at getttjng a fluted firing pin option.
Thanks

Both are good.
To check protrusion, check the figure from the front of the bolt nose to the bolt face with a dial caliper. Then install the pin assy, decock it and remeasure the same way but to the pin tip instead. Subtract the difference and that's your pin protrusion. I like to see .050 +/- .005.
Good shootin'. -Al

Thank you sir! Bolt nose to bolt face then Bolt face to pin tip (after installing and de-cock) …. Correct? Just want to make sure

I’ve replaced several and they’re plug and play. I like the PT&G fluted steel pin with the aluminum shroud. Easy peasy.

I've replaced a few for myself, a dozen or more for friends. Callahan (junk),, PTG (good), GreTan (a bit better), Pierce (best). I think I installed a fifth brand but can't think of the name. I don't see Pierce FP assemblies on Sinclair's or Pierce's websites anymore. They are all plug and play unless bolt dimensions are wonky. Be sure to grease the cocking ramp and pay attention to it after the bolt has been cycled 30-40 times to make sure it's not galling.

J Lock/ISS firing pin lock feature is defeatable by disassembling the pin & rotating it 180 degrees.
Check breech face firing pin hole diameter to proceed.
Protrusion should be w/in a few thousandths on any quality CNC'd part..
Stay away from any Speed Lock aluminum shank firing pins.
Keep 'em in the X Ring, DAN

I reckon it's not a bad idea to check firing pin protrusion before and after. But I have changed several firing pin assembly in several model 7 and 700 and never had an issue

I have used Gretan and PTG, both were plug and play. Done more than a few
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
