Yup, one of the few really smart firearms purchases I’ve made was snagging a FC relatively early, even though it was a financial stretch at the time. Oakland Guns made it happen with their handy layaway plan.
Now I could just buy one, or more, if any were to be had, but realistically at my age, one is plenty. I do find myself “needing” more shotguns than ever before for some reason, and handguns seem to appear almost out of nowhere…….
I got even luckier. I stumbled on one of the first handful of Forbes rifles built by Melvin at Forbes while teaching them how they needed to be made. I called Melvin and that's what he told me according to my serial number. Mine has Melvin's stock, not the one Forbes put in their last rifles. Mine also has the locking bolt safety and shoots 1/2 moa groups quite regularly with factory ammo.
I would have bought a Fieldcraft back when, but I owned the Forbes and I do like a safety that locks the bolt.
