I bought a Ruger Buckeye in 32 H&R and 32/20 that has been modified to a Bisley grip. I am also wondering if it has been modified to 327.
Is there a way to measure the chamber without out a 327 case?
If its not been modified to 327 is that a worth while mod? The cylinder is definitely long enough as the Buckeye is on a Blackhawk frame.

If you want the added speed the 327 offers then it is worthwhile.
Certainly more versatile

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Ruger builds a stout revolver, but keep in mind that the 327 generates more than twice the pressure of either the 32/20 or the 32 H&R. I like the 327 and have 2 revolvers and 1 rifle in that chambering. I don't even enjoy running full power 327 through it. Unless you are going to hunt deer or pigs with it, I wouldn't bother with rechambering it, even if it is safe to do so.

IIRC the Buckeye's were built on full sized Ruger frames. My 38-40/10mm version is.

That they were. I let the 38-40/10mm stay at the gun shop. Later thought I should have checked if they were same serial number minus the prefix. No issues with the 327 in the Buckeye
Just wondering if there is a way to figure if its been chambered in 327 since I don’t have a case to check with

Use the depth measuring feature on your caliper to reach down to the transition to the chamber throat. Not super precise but should be good enough to tell.

I remembered that I have a set of Starrett small hole gages.
Best I can tell it is still a 32 H&R chamber. I will probably just leave it as is.
I may send it out to have the cyl opened up to .313 as its a tight .309/10
Thanks for the reply’s

I have both 32H&R and 327 cylinders for my Freedom Arms. The only use I have for the 327 cylinder is shooting 130gr hard cast. Everything else I want is accomplished with the H&R. If you don't have plans of shooting 130grs, I wouldn't bother cutting the chambers.

I have the same Buckeye that you do & have no intention of rechambering the 32 cylinder to 327. I have a couple of 327's already plus the 32/20 can be loaded plenty hot if you need to do so on that Blackhawk frame/cylinder. I'm pretty sure the case would let go before that heavy cylinder would, not that I would want to find out.
And you can shoot some hot 32 loads out of it if you want to, I do with mine, Ground Squirrels hate it with a 100 gr cast HP.

If you are wanting to find some hotter +P style 32 H&R loads, some of these worked really well for me. The Unique, 2400, and CFE Pistol loads he lists shoot really well for me for both 85/90gr jacketed and 115gr RNFP cast, and offer a bit more pop than standard 32 offerings.

What do your cylinder throats measure? Mine are pretty tight

I prefer the 115s in the H&R and the 130s in the 327. I laid in a huge supply of 115gr Speer gold dot HPs years ago when they discontinued them.

Haven't measured the throats but .314" bullets shoot just fine in my Buckeye.

Curious what 130 grainers you are using in the 327?

Thank you.

Not home and don’t remember where I got them. They are the same bullet Buffalo Bore uses. I’ll post tomorrow when I’m home and can look at my supply.

Home early

The bulk of my shooting is with 100gr cast and jacketed bullets. When I want to showcase what the 32H&R and 327 are all about, these are my two go to bullets. The 115s perform great in both but the 327 really gets the velocity with the 130s. The 130gr are from Rim Rock and the same bullet Buffalo Bore uses in their loaded ammo.

Seems like they also have more than what is on their website. If you want something you don't see, call them. I think I might have got some 135gr 32-30 bullets from them many years ago, but I could have been someone else. It's been a few years since I ordered from them, but they were very friendly when I called.
