Big Momma just called from work and related that there was a guy down there,in a very bad way. It seems he arrived a coupla days ago to Hunt Bears and had recently fallen and broken his rifle stock plum in two. I told her to put him on the horn and I'd do my best,to get him back in the saddle.

Long story short,I didn't have an extra SUCKS DBM long action handle laying loose,so I rounded up some BDL longs and went to meet him. The extry walnut handles I brought had all been bedded prior and weren't any too eager to accept his barreled action(a typical encounter,as you gents know). Besides,he didn't have the tools to hog out the mag well/floorplate footprint to accept his DBM and I have to take Sissy fishin' yet this evening,so my plate was/is full.

He was seriously dejected and contemplating buying a new rifle,so as to finish his Hunt. I asked him straight up if he could shoot worth a [bleep] and he related that "he could",but what else is he gonna say?!!?(grin). I then told him I'd be right back and bolted to the house.

As he was Muley Stalker-ish in stature,I grabbed my 30-8mmRem mag(longer LOP Classic handle) and 338Ultra(6x42 scrunched forward) and a can of ammo for each, stoked with Blue Meanies.

Went back and threw the door open on the rig and told him to "pick his poison" and he opted the Ultra. Treated him like a 2nd Grader on how to operate it(just so he weren't trying to bluff his way through the mechanics of a Sako),showed him how the stock was denoted with it's confirmed trajectory curve(250yd zero with 210XLC's) and how that data was configured. Also warned him about the light trigger pull and made him try it out a coupla times in front of me.

By then his pards were there,am thinking there was 4 in their party, but the way the Texans were swarming I lost count.(grin) Anyhow,we talked guns/Hunting for a spell and I tried to get their mind's right on breaking bone and where a guy might find a Good 'Un this time of year.

Am thinking that our Alaskan Generousity done put the zap on them,as they sorta walked away in a trance, mighta been mumbling too but my ears aren't the best. I just told him to bring the rifle and it's ammo back to Big Momma after he'd filled his tag and that odds were that he wouldn't be having to do much tracking after the poke.

My Boss called soon after this transpired(15 minutes ago),to relate the pending weather doom/gloom/Storm forecast. I in turn, related the recent malady and he was laughing at how DownSouth folks just no savvy, how laid back things are up here. I musta aptly related the looks on their faces, when I refused loot or even a contact phone number and drove off.

Zero doubt in my mind he ain't gonna stiff me and am thinking his Mojo will now be working over-time,via the Ultra. Just funny to me,how things are different,in different places. Texans seemingly fret details too much(grin).

All I asked for was a picture of his Bear and am now wishin' I had a picture of his mug!(grin)

Here's hoping the forecast is accurate and I get to dredge up some Coho in the AM and perhaps whack a Buck in the afternoon in lieu of lacing up cork shoes.

Am also hoping a certain unlucky Texan whacks a Hog......................

A guy just called me from Alaska and said he had a really nice custom .338 that he would sell me cheap as soon as he got back, wonder what I should offer him? Of course the scope is thrown in, being only a fixed power. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Laffin' here.

He quizzed me on the black tape danglin' off the end of the barrel and I told him I do that on all my barrels I have $500 in to. Coulda knocked his eyes off of him with a stick!(grin)

Truth is,that she is a Douglas tube and only SHOOTS like a $500 barrel.

The gent would heap big impress me,if he could scratch it deeper, rust it further or abuse it more than I routinely do. Fact is,if he were able to bust the McMillan handle in half,I'd hang it on the wall as a Trophy and happily buy a fresh one.

You'd probably have zero use for a ratty old rifle like that anyhow and would be ashamed to let it outta the dark and be seen in public.

Am hoping he spares you that misery.................(grin)

You're right, I've given up on .338s, have decided I don't need the ones I have. I'll have to get around to selling them someday.

You're a good man, Stick dude. We might have to make you a Texas Kernel if you keep that up. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Well I bought them and when they arrived and I opened the package boy was I in for a surprise <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />. This guy sent me his dirty laundry <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. If you do buy from from him beware when you call him cause he's a talker <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. He'll definitely tug your hear on the phone and will not send you what you buy. There will aways be some extra's in the package <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />. Thanks for the rifles Big Stick it was a pleasesure doing business with you and maybe someday I can come up for a hunt and bring your laundry to you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Sticks hospitality has never been in question! Nor that of his his great family. A fair share of us have pressed that luck, and come away very happy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

He'd do any Texan proud, and I've met a few from this board who made me feel right at home, in their home.

Stick,

problem is you're so in love with that place up there, I just KNOW you ain't gonna come down South so that we who've been on the recieving end of your generosity can reciprocate in some way. Here's hoping you will. Maybe we can do some kinda Shootenfest or something, located exactly halfway between Texas & Georgia. Yeah, thats it, Alabama!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I used to have a 325 es, great car, gets great mileage.

Yup, real Alaskans are good folks, generous to a fault. The others, well, would be nice if they'd pack up and head to where they came from.

By God. Sending guys "spare" optics to help cure them of Beezer Fever, helping out strange Texicans, (I know, another oxymoron), with rifles and ammo. Where will it all end? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Couple more of these deals young feller and you'll be required to turn in the Billy Goat Gruff badge for an autographed 8x10 of Barney. Bet the Texan shows up with some first-rate tribute for your kindness. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Nicest thing I've ever done for someone was give 'em a mounted tire for their old Chevy Nova, when they hobbled off'n the interstate one night with a flat tire and discovered the clunker they'd recently bought, had no spare.
Pack rats like me's bound to have anything on hand, or did when I still had my shop.
Look on their faces was priceless when I told them, no problem kids, got one of them in the shop, (tenant moved out, left it behind, knew it was off'n his old Nova).

I don't have much, but what little I have, decent folks are more than welcome to.

Haven't heard a Texas-sized Bear bragging story yet,so am thinking our recent bout of extremely tough weather mighta added a degree of difficulty for him.

If a guy is gonna venture up here,he shouldn't be slighted out of a taste of Mother Nature's humorous side. It will hopefully add another wee bit of spice to his Adventure,as it's been pretty funny for the last two days! In fact the forecast is more hilarity.

Have my fingers crossed that the Hunting Gods smile upon him and despite a wet ass,his tag is well filled............

Welll.....the debacle is over.

While The Boy and I were out yesterday fending Ma Nature's furiously funny side, the Texan(hell,I don't even know his name) returned my rifle and it's ammo to Big Momma.

Wish I could have yacked at him to get the particulars, but he returned the rifle with some fresh rust and one empty hull outta the full box I loaned him. It seems he picked an animal he wanted, hit the switch and the Hunt was over. Funny how that works, especially with that combo.

As savage as the weather turned,I'm thinking he'll have more than one yarn to relate to his pards DownSouth, about his first Alaskan Adventure.

Mission complete.......................
