I assume there's a screw under the Ruger logo? Any way to remove it without destroying it?


I have a No.1 that was re-barreled, then the barrel, action, lever etc. was all coated. But they didn't do the grip cap. I assume they didn't know how to get it off. Doesn't really bother me, most of the time I forget it's even there (un-matching). Seriously doubt I'd take it off, nor that I could ever make the color match, so it's more curiosity than anything.

Yeah, there’s a screw under the little medallion in the center. You can pop it out with a small screw driver on the edge and some light tapping with a mallet. It may or may not survive. The several I’ve done have though. Brownells sells replacements.

The few I’ve removed, I drilled a small hole in the medallion, turned a screw into said hole and pried/yanked it out. A fresh medallion is cheaper than a new cap so I was okay with sacrificing it.
