Did a little turkey hunting yesterday and ended up walking through the corner of 2 clearcuts. My Sitka Timberlines now have a bunch of fabric snags and my legs look like I had no pants on.

So - what hunting brush pants you guys wearing? I don't want the classic canvas pants - have them. Looking for something that I can wear turkey hunting and scouting.

First lite Sawbuck look interesting and about what I have in mind.

Options and thoughts?

There’s a reason canvas pants (or bibs) are “classic.”

The Sawbucks are a great brush pant. Way cooler than canvas. They just lack some pockets that I wish they had. Durability is excellent.

The Kuiu pant is an upgrade on the Sawbuck and have the pockets, plus the vents.

I saw the Kuiu on their website but know nothing about them. Thanks!

This thread got me to dig my brush pants out of the tote they're in. Not sure how they shrunk sitting in the tote, so following this to see recommendations. I've had my brush pants a very long time, no brand name on them, so no way to look for them online. Super heavy duty, busted through a lot of brush with them over the years...

For moderate brush and briers Carhartt heavy work pants are suitable and come in olive drab.

Riggs workwear from wrangler work pretty well for moderate brush and woods. They are comfortable enough that I pretty much wear them all the time. They come in olive, light olive and gray.

I buy Little Donkey Andy pants @ amazon $45, I got them on sale for $36 bought 3 sage green.
They're tough but will get snags but not tear. They stretch which is nice hilly terrain and they dry really fast.

I'm cool with saving money if they don't snag or shred. My issue with cotton/canvas is they are a bit warm this time of year and take a week and a half to dry. I sat in the rain for 2 hours yesterday, then moved through wet woods/brush for the next 1.5 hrs. I covered 9 miles yesterday and cotton/canvas would have been miserable. Plus I've gotten inner thigh chaffing from wearing wet cotton/canvas in past attempts. Hard pass on the normal/classic brush pants.

The Kuiu and First Lite pants look interesting but are a bit pricey.

Fortunately, the state came through and bushhogged the tangled mess my hunting spot had become and planted meandering food plots with lots of cover around them. The clover etc. they planted has lots of game trails through it. I get by with regular hunting pants, but wear waterproof snake boots to protect my shins when I go through the edges. If I plan on real briar busting, I’ll tote my chaps along and put them on as needed. No sense wearing them the whole time or whistling canvas pants either.

Just ordered a couple 3” thick memory foam seat cushions to pad out my turkey seat, as my last trip left me with a sore rear. The cushion fits inside the folded seat when I’m packing it using the shoulder straps. The extra one is for the reclining sofa, which eats regular cushions.

I always wear synthetic jockeys when hunting to prevent chapping. Dunno if boxers come in synthetic, but you might try those if they do. Dry fast too. (I live in bear country..... rains on occaision too. )

Still got “4” bloodshot scabs on my right inner calf from Mexico, second week of January. Our briars, devil club, brush is the worst I’ve seen for riggin, but this shiit is just hateful.

Filson - heavy but it is a choice in life.

I use both the FL Sawbucks and Kuiu Katanas turkey hunting and really like both. They are both good compromises from the true, heavy brush pants. I like the fit of the Katanas better but seem to wear the Sawbucks more but each are good for run-and-gun hunts without getting too hot yet providing nice protection.

I'm leaning Sawbucks but would go with either. Prob gonna depend on who runs a sale first......

First Lite is local to me. I have a pair of Sawbucks and they're not a bad product, just don't have the fit/design I prefer.
I've worn for years all over the world and can highly recommend Fjallraven Trekking Trousers in their G-1000 material. They have half a dozen or so lines with several design options in each. Kebs or Barents with a set of custom knee high Turtleskin Gaiters are pretty much what live in my travel pack.

I have the sawbucks and like them, but the fit is not great. I haven’t purchased the Kuiu yet but they look like an upgrade. I’ll definitely have a pair of them by the fall. When rifle season comes around I will generally be wearing brush pants for most of my hunting.

Another option is 5.11 Stryke pants. I’ve worn them a lot in clear cuts around home as well as to Mexico to hunt Coues deer. Not as heavy as something with a cordura front but they’re damn near indestructible. Finally wore my first pair out after 7-8 years.

Nice looking deer! Jeans are fine but they definitely wouldn’t be my choice for spring turkey hunting when it is hot.

Years ago I had beagle rabbit dogs. Hunted them often and some of the.places we hunted were mostly sawbriars, green briars, and blackberry thickets. You didn't walk into that without brush pants or you were covered in bleeding scratches. We wore pants that had cordura facing.
The brands back then were Redhead or Duxbak. Different than what is sold under those names now. If I was looking for true brush pants now I would look at a coon hunting supply company.

I have the FL Sawbucks and thus far have been very happy with them.

I got the KUIU Pro Brush. Almost perfect for what I do, but not quite. I’ve talked to them but doubtful they adjust them. They are like my house and don’t have ballroom. Complicated by having too many seams culminate in same area. Easy for them to adjust but doubtful. Another small item is the extra leg pockets are too deep and allows items to bang off the kneecap, especially uphill. Thirdly, they need to make odd sizes. 32 is snug and 34 falls off in this pant. I’ve got a pair of Kutana arriving today. Will give them a run.

I got the attack and a great pant. Just won’t take any thorns. They snag and pull on brush you don’t even see. They are warm also.

Figure I can work in them when it's 100 degrees......plus I usually just hunt in whatever I got on that day. My typical hunts usually happen while I'm out an about and hardly ever planned. And...camo and these fancy brands are just too dang expensive!

I still like Carhartt's the best. Not the most comfortable, but I am ok with that as it keeps the catclaw from my legs.
