Looking for the value of a Smith & Wesson M/629 no dash 4" made in 1983. It is recessed but the barrel is not pinned.

Condition is EVERYTHING when it comes to pricing.
Lots of difference between New in the Original Box with papers and just a plain ole “shooter grade”.

Just the gun, no go with, auction company states maybe test fired only. So there you have a description of condition.

No reason to feel slighted. I believe chl is trying to help you. Btw, Everything he said is true.

My advice, since no pictures: Take a picture of the gun and compare it to the "completed.." section on gunbroker of the exact model -> 629 no dash, 4" unpinned, no box and see what you get.

Best of luck.

No comps on Gunbroker or Guns International. No opinions in answer to the same question posted on the Smith & Wesson forum either.

Not really.

Are the screws burred? Is there a turn line on the cylinder? Holster wear? Any nicks, dings, or scratches? What kind of grips does it have? Are they original? Is there any carbon or flame cutting on the top strap? Has the top strap been drilled and tapped? Bore condition? Any burrs on the the extractor star? Any wear evident on the ejector rod? How does the face of the recoil shield look?

Haven't had coffee yet, but I could come up with a lot more questions after I fix that. Pictures would really help.

It's common to see a combination of pinned and recessed for that date of manufacture. I used to own a Model 57 made in 1983 that was just the opposite, i.e., pinned barrel, but no recessed chambers. During that year of manufacture, they were slapping together guns from whatever parts were in the bins at the plant, which was typically a mix of pre-82 and post-81 parts, so sometimes you'd still get pinned and recessed, sometimes pinned but not recessed, sometimes recessed but not pinned, and sometimes neither pinned nor recessed.

98% to 99% of these will be encountered in almost new condition. Buyer price is $1070.39. Cardbord boxes are next to worthless, but wooden boxes add value because they make wonderful jewelry boxes.

Bro, for $800-$900 you can get one of the new ones with lock and MIM parts. Personally it does not matter much to me, but boomers think the older the better, let them think that.

I bought one ‘new and in the box’ a few years ago new. I paid in the neighborhood of $900. It’s in very very excellent condition.
I’m thinking I wouldn’t sell it for what it cost me.

I’m into buying high and selling low. But this one will stay with me. It’s my pickup revolver.

I prefer classic.

Cardboard boxes worthless?

Tell that to the guys selling them for $100-150 a piece on the S&W Forum and elsewhere.

The only value original shipping box provides certain information about the gun it contains. Boxes not original to the gun are just recyclable cardboard. People who pay for them are stupid. How you say? There is a seat for ....
One should always ask about box for gun. Shops often have some on hand and just by asking buyer can get nice one like those provided with Glock pistols. I am talking about newer ones not cheap ones provided with Gen 1 and Gen 2 pistols.

You don't have a clue. And how would you, living in a communist country. Not even in the USA.

I agree with most of that. He's clueless, plus low IQ, and probably a commie to boot.

But he lives in Florida. It's just Maser... again.

I do not need Google. In some cases ORIGINAL cardboard box adds value and makes gun easier to sell. One example is rare (<5000 units produced) S&W N-frame .357 with fixed rear sight. Most will be LNIB (current value $1700), therefore, to get max price box & papers are required.
