It would be instructive to know what that prick did or does for a living.
Syracuse is a college town, big university there.
He was gonna just walk away and leave someone with some thousands of dollars in a paint job.

Just guessing but $6k isn't the same to him as to the average American who
works over 6 weeks to gross that. They would need loans, he will withdraw it.
Plus a grand or two in fines. 2 months wages for Mr. Average.
Then it's a tale to tell at home.
This is one time we need Scandinavian type penalties.
They would consider what he earns, then apportion the fines to hurt him equal
to the average person. Say he earns $500k instead of 50, his fine might be $20k.
Not class warfare.
I would be hit harder than average here, and that's fair.
Break a law, one should be punished the same as an 18 year old who did
that to a cheating boyfriend. Only this case is worse.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

Something to be said for that. They say laws are for poor people, because it hits them a lot harder than rich people. Speeding fine doesn’t mean nothing to someone driving a $200K car. Means a lot to someone driving a beater.

that to a cheating boyfriend. Only this case is worse. I have always thought that should be the case with speeding tickets, too. For an average working stiff with a family to feed, a $250.00 speeding fine is huge. To a multimillionaire, it's pocket change, and constitutes no punishment at all.

Notice his comment after the truth came out? " So get it painted" like 6K wasn't anything. Probably not as if his Keys property is waterfront it's closer to a mil in value than a half, which is a common price in the area.

I've seen reports of speeding tickets in the many thousand dollars.
Just a hard headed factory worker here, but tickets don't mean much to me anymore.
Back when cash was tight and a ticket ate a week's wages, I feared them.
Today I don't even worry about getting the car inspected.
$125 for being weeks shy of a year overdue, the young cop was apologizing for
writing it. Said he wouldn't if I was only a month or two. I was kinda laughing at the whole thing and told him write it up.
Once folks have money they don't need, it's harder to get their attention with fines.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

On top of paying for damage repair, a Singapore style caning would be appropriate. Singapore gave Mr. Michael Fay a bloody reminder to not vandalize cars back in the 1990s. Bamboo wielded by a professional to the bare butt. Might cure some of the vandalizing, rioting, and shoplifting in this country. It would cut down on jail overcrowding. Do it publicly. Guessing some sleuthing would turn up his identity. For instance, bet they probably rent that place out when they're not there. A search of airbnb.com and vrbo.com might prove interesting. Also, if somebody found his/their name(s), it would be easy to locate the house. You could easily find that on Monroe County property appraiser's website.

That's going to cost him a lot more than a paint job. I would guess that the owner of the Tundra will sue for other damages, and likely seek punitive as well. All that on top of legal fees. I would also guess that his wife will be his largest source of pain. She was BIG pissed.

He’s been doing it for a while and finally got caught. A “mistake” he called it! BS! The only mistake he made was not realizing that there are cameras everywhere! There’s no guarantee that a first time felony gets plead down. He may well be a convicted felon, going forward and rightly so. He earned it. It’ll be a long time before the wife cuts him any slack. It’s obvious that she knows him and his ways quite well. The deputy did an excellent job.
