Kansas opened their three day youth season on Friday, April 8th. Well, the girl went turkin instead of school. First off, we gobbled a Tom off the roost across from the house. He came our way, but never to be seen again. We then checked some other places and set up about noon after seeing a Tom in the distance. After calling for a bit and no response, I decided to do some heavy cutting. They answered from behind us. Not long until three Toms appeared and we had them coming our way. We were spread out enough (do to the tree circumstances) that she was on her own. All three of them came strutting into us. I couldn't even look over to see what she was doing as we were pretty well in the open. About time I was wondering if she was ready, the crack of her twenty-bore spoke and down he went. He had a nine inch beard, 7/8 inch spurs, and weighed 22 pounds. She is twelve now and this is her second season.
