I had one that turned purple. It was a Vari-X II, 2-7 power. I wrote a letter asking if anything could be done about it, and they replied asking me to send it in. In a week or two, they sent me a brand new scope, same model.

I sent it in at the same time they were discontinuing the Vari-X II models and coming out with the VX- line. Fortunately they still had some Vari-X models, so I did this at the right time.

As I recall, they told me this happened to a number of scopes made during a certain time frame, and it had something to do with the dye lots.

Anyway, write a letter of inquiry and you should be satisfied.
