Ok, this was a pretty clean site until the new guys showed. Gunny, Kenny Wasser., and Doc Brent are here? Reminds me of a Groucho quip about how he wouldn't belong to a club that would accept him.
Guess we're going to be in tough shape now.

With BPCR.net 'tango-uniform', CROSSFIREOOPS (or was that supposed to be a secret?) thought this might be a good place to... shall we say, "Regroup"

Josh, if you check my post count and search a little, you will see that this place has been no secret. When the Shooters board crashed, the hunting forums moved over here. Many of them have since moved on to Accurate Reloading but this place has been around a long time.

Nah, no secret..............this is a fine warm spot, and the server doesn't go down a lot.......................Broad spectrum outdoor enthusiasm.......kinda nice.
Ther's one of these sites that's sorta like a jail, rules out the ying.............and boring, like paint drying.
SOOOoooo, let's set fire to something, and than, blow it up.
Sincerest congrats to all the fine shooters who made this a season to remember.

Sorry Brent, I did know you where over here. I have looked at Accurate Reloading occasionally as well, but it seemed a little caustic over there.
Take care,
Josh

Caustic would be an understatement. The place is totally toxic with folks that want to prove that they bleed testosterone.

Wish Rick would get that .net place going again. Miss picking on the chocolate bathpowder shooters.

I miss picking on the designers of wierd and bizarre bullets, that look like they were cast in the holes in an old truck axle flange.....................and purveyed as the answer to all the worlds problems............
Still waiting for the CAS lynch mob to ride in, on that one.

We could have the same BPCR (weenie-roasts?) here, but it is tuff to light a campfire when no one brings kindling

I didn't bring any kindling at this time. However, I've been known to bring dry leaves, birch bark and gas pine to different forums. Depends on my state of mind at the time and how may have been consumed; two, three or four fingers worth.
I'm rebuilding an old trapdoor (totally worthless in it's present state). Poor metal and very poor wood. It's only redeeming factor is that it will shoot bullets. The EPA has warned me that I dare not be caught throwing patches away as they are too full of lead. One question for you guys. How do you get the bottom of the pitting clear of rust? Naval jelly don't do it. I plan on browning/blueing when I get metal ready.
And when I get done with it I'd like to go to Texas and shoot some jihad hogs that Josh A is raising. That is, if he'll have a couple of old beat up war horses on his place.

Timberlake have you tried an oversized stainless steel bore brush and JB paste?

Exterior pits, or in the spout?........Need a barrel, lemme know, but, removing old tube can be a real heart stopper. Shepherd has a $hitload of trapdoor plunder. Like a full sized coffin full of barreled actions, and box after box of Parts.

Ranch13,
Thanks. Sure did try that and that's why the rifle shoots as well as it does! Believe it or not, the bore is that portion of the rifle that is in the best shape.

The only other thing that may work is some really fine steel wool on a jag used like cleaning patches, a few passes oiled and a few dry. Hope you get the old girl slicked up and working good.

You could try putting the naval jelly on tufts of navel lint.( (grin)
................................If it's exterior pits, bead blast that sucker, with a fine beads....not sand, beads, than polish, or just rust blue, as beaded......that will get into the deep pits,
I use the big one at my buddies' engine shop.

DON"T do that... I once had a .32-40 barrel that sounds like it was in similar condition. I went to work on it with a SS bore brush and it removed steel! Cleaned most of the rust out but what was left was nothing pretty. Actually it was just an experiment as I sent the barrel to Chuck Meyers in Oregon and got back an outstanding rebore/rifled .45-70.

Any "fuel" is great
I have used Brownells 'Steel Whiite', which is a liquid that removes blue and rust very cleanly. (with the rust gone you may have a surface that looks like a rat-tail file in reverse!)

Welcome! Glad to see some new/old faces here. I came over in May '02 after hanging out at Shooters for awhile before it went belly up. I was probably the one that persuaded Rick to set up a BPCR section about a year ago. I got tired of clicking on Single Shots and having to go through all the stuff about TC Contenders, and "Can a low wall be chambered for .260 Improved?" Nothing against folks who have that interest, but those rifles have nothing in common with BPCRs except holding only one cartridge at a time. There were some interesting questions at first from folks who didn't know what BPCR meant, like "Does it stand for Big Powerful Custom Rifle"? Anyhow, the Campfire is a great site covering a broad range of interests. I don't see this BPCR section as replacing any of the other great specialized BPCR sites, but it is another place to share ideas, and maybe get some new folks interested in the old time guns, especially since many don't know how to find the BPCR sites when they're looking for info on how to get started.
