Anyone handle one of these? Any opinions?

I saw one today that looked to be a nice hunter in 30-06 at a decent negotiable price but have never heard of the maker.

Never dealt with one. Put "Kongsberg firearms" in search and you get a ton of hits.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried the search thing before posting here, and found the 1st 20+ pages of results were about Krag Jorgensen rifles, Colt copy pistols and M98`s built during the war. All the references to the M393 are links to various forums with the same question posted as mine with no reply's. It seems if the rifle has anything at all going for it someone would know about it.

Search for Kongsberg 393 and you'll have better luck.

Joe-
There's an ad for Kongsberg rifles in Shotgun News of October 1, 1995. Some of the blurb: "Easy load and unload rotary magazine; three position safety; adjustable trigger; integral rail for secure low-scope mounting, also drilled and tapped."

The ad quoted Layne Simpson from Shooting Times: "It is one of the smoother actions I have worked with. The 393 gets high marks in my book".

Address of importer: Kongsberg America, 2 Merwin's Lane, Fairfield, CT 06430.

An offeer to save $25 on your next purchase of a Kongsberg Rifle unfortunately expired on Dec 31, 1995.

Ol' Joe, did you ever find any more information on these? I see this was a short discussion but still seems like there is very little information available.

Nope.
I played with the idea of buying the rifle, likely the same one Grasshopper was eyeing, but spent my extra coin on a mice Cooper M21 in 6x45 instead.
The rifle was definatly a nice piece and if I didn`t already have a couple `06s it would be in the safe today.

Hey Joe -

I've read all of this. Imagine my surprise!

When I read the title, I thot you were talking 'mossberg'/kongsberg ! grin

Wellll okay. No never heard, seen, nor handled one. Some replies sound interesting enuff to check into them but I'll admit I'm some skeptical.

Here's a scan of the ad for the Kongsberg 393, from Page 7 of the October 1, 1995, issue of Shotgun News.
