Assuming you're referencing a "Model 70 Classic Super Grade", I believe your rifle should date approximately to the Millennium or just beyond. Note that the Classic series of "Controlled Round Feed" (CRF) Rifles introduced in 1991, began its own Serialization anew from "G0001" prefix series, rather than continuing the existing "Push Feed" "G+7 digits" serialization. (How that scheme 'fits in' in the wider scheme of "G" serials; another story for another time. Just believe!)

My own such era Super Grade Model 70, .338 Win, in 48xxx SN is purportedly from 1993. I also have a Classic Compact, 7mm08, in G327xxx SN which purports to 1999. But both my dates are from an "estimated" index as noted "best available". I don't even find that listing today!

The Winchester Firm yet offers the following guidance yet on the Web today:
"Contact the Winchester Customer Service Department at 800-333-3288 to obtain date of manufacture."

I have two requests of you and of any other Super Grade 70 of '92 forward owners. Please advise whether your barrel, right side 'amidships' carries "Winchester Super Grade Classic" nomenclature as mine. Also as inquiring, if you find a positive source of SN/Date of Mfg info, including a still working Firm response, please advise for benefit of all of us!

Good Luck & Best!
John
