I've come across a pretty fair price on a Model 70 Winchester in .416 Remington and was wondering what all would be involved in re-barrelling to .338 Lapua as I already have a .375 H&H and a.458 Winchester. If its cost effective, as the Cz's and Weatherby's are just to high for me. I think it would make a nice looking hunting rifle instead of the tactical look or the target style look of the Savage's which are in my price range any info would help Thanks!

It would be a lot of work and I doubt it's a good idea, the case is too large for the action. It wouldn't leave much metal surrounding the chamber.

ok, I didn't know the case was that much larger in diameter I was just thinking the length would be ok. I guess I should have known, because the Lapua is based of a .416 Rigby supposedly. thanks

If you're looking for cost effective and a M70 - find a push feed in 338 Win and rechamber to 340 Wby and open the mag box.

you could rebarrel the M70 to 338 edge.....same ballistics as a Lapua .

if you are stuck on the Lapua cartridge , just get a Weatherby accumark......Buds sells them for $1800 . A M70 plus a rebarrel job is gonna cost you near that much anyway .

I think I'll just stick to my old 8 mag Remington, for all the money it would cost, I had a .338 win mag at one time but I like to have something different thats kinda why I wanted the Lapua in a model 70, I just didn't know the case was that large in diameter I've never been around a Lapua just read about them
