Friends,
I've looked but cannot find the rate of twist of the Model 7615P Police Carbine in 5.56NATO. = Do any of you, who are reading this thread, happen to know?? (The reason that I'm asking is to determine how heavy that I can go with bullets & still get decent hunting accuracy.)
yours, tex

And that is only a guideline, the twist may be that twist or close one way or another. But its a start. A good buddy has done fine with 80 smks in 9 twist. But the 77smks are iffy. FWIW

rockinbar; rost495,
I'd guess that I got hold of a DUMMY when I called Remington, as I was told, "I can't help you as it's not publicized."
THANKS, Gents.
I want to load 72 grain JHP for our small TX deer & hogs.
yours, tex

It should be stamped on the barrel somewhere. Although you might have to take the handguard off to find it.
I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

A 1/9 will handle a 72gr bullet.

Tyrone,
That is EXACTLY what I wanted to know. = I've found about 1500 SMK 70 grain JHP for a good price (out of an estate) but didn't want to waste $$$$ buying bullets that were unsuitable for the little 7615P. (A "local expert' told me that the 1-9 rate of twist wasn't suitable for anything more than 60 grains. - So much for "experts".)
Note: I looked for well over 2 years for a NICE 7615. - I finally found a MINT one at a decent price (that had sat unissued, for several years, in a TX police department armory) & nearly immediately my beloved Darla decided that it was HERS, as "It's just my size". (Darla is 90#, wears a 1 or a 2 in a dress & is 61" tall. = PETITE describes her perfectly. Fwiw, she is DEADLY with that 5.56 carbine out to 200M+. - I truly pity any intruder who decides, FOOLISHLY, to break into our home, as he will soon resemble a Swiss cheese. = Darla is an American-born, 1st generation, pure Sicilian & Sicilian women are NOT known to be merciful/forgiving to criminal intruders, who threaten their loved ones, hearth & home. )
Three weeks ago, I found another 7615 that is also MINT & unfired by a TN police department. = It's enroute to my local FFL & should arrive this week. I find it "rather interesting" that any number of police/sheriffs departments bought the 7615P but never even test-fired, much less ever issued the carbines for routine use. = While the 7615 with several M16 magazines was a "GREAT DEAL" for ME (I paid about 50.oo less than the police department paid for it new, including delivery to SATX.), I would be really unhappy if I was a taxpayer in that TN town.
yours, tex

What bullets are you really talking about? You've said 72gr, and now 70gr SMK; as far as I know neither one exist. Are you talking about the 69gr SMK? (SMK meaning Sierra MatchKing, not just a generic term for HP match bullets) Or some other bullet? Your twist rate question really needs to be more specific to the particular bullet than just the weight. What works well with a 69gr SMK for example may not work with a 70gr RDF, etc.

Yondering,
Inasmuch as I asked about 72 grain JHP before I found the (about) 1500 bullets from the Brock's estate sale & that I'm buying for 100 bucks cash (LESS than 7 cents each), I'm not sure what your valid point is OR if you actually have a point. (YES, the bullets are Sierra Match King bullets of 69 grains, IF that one grain "error on my part" is at all meaningful. = For hunting, I seriously doubt of one or even 5 grains makes ANY difference whatever in KILLING WT or any other game animal.)
Fwiw, the older that I get, the less interested that I am in that level of exact detail. = I'm FAR from "perfect" & make many errors every day.

69s are good to go. They are just OTM clones of the m855 62gr bullet, only without the steel core. Sierra lists their minimum twist as 1/10.
Your barrel should handle the 70 Nosler RDF too. Bryan Litz says they require a minimum twist of 1/9.7.
Sierra lists the minimum twist for the 77MK as 1/8, but some button rifled 1/9s are a little on the fast side and will handle those too. So, you might get lucky if you try some.

I'd have been a lot more pissed, as a taxpayer, that the dept bought such a joke to begin with. Getting rid of it at a loss was a much better deal than trying to issue it for serious use. I don't quite grasp the utility as a hunting rifle....but it makes even less sense as a fighting gun.

Remington 7615P 5 rounds 100 yards IMI 69 gr Sierra Match King BTHP Leupold 3X M8 mounted way too high (Had to put non-shooting hand on the comb to get a cheek weld) I don't quite grasp the utility as a hunting rifle....but it makes even less sense as a fighting gun. For those of us who live in states that are likely to ban semi-auto rifles capable of accepting a removable magazines, the 7615 is a bit of insurance that we will still be able to use our .223/5.56 ammo and 10 round magazines.

I often forget about that issue...I suppose that makes some modicum of sense.

yours, tex Well its EXTREMELY important but I suppose you don't get that at all. Types like you are the types that end up blowing up guns not having a real clue on how to reload.
