Hello fellow scattergunners,

Who shoots the CZ (or Huuglu) Canvasback or Redhead over/under shotguns?

I'm specifically interested in the Canvasback, altho the Redhead is similar.

Despite being low-priced entry-models (MSRP $700-$800) into the world of over/unders, How well do you like your gun?

Are you satisfied with its quality?

And how it shoots?

Would you recommend to others to purchase and shoot these guns?

I'm interested in the Canvasback as an upland gun (probably 20Ga) and inexpensive way to shoot an O/U again. I also like the 'blue versus stainless-steel look' of the Canvasback over the Redhead. Thought I would want a 26" set of tubes, but since my shots would (mostly) be longer than shorter, I'd probably opt for 28" barrels. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

Doesn't anyone shoot CZ over/unders?

I own a CZ side by side in .410 and it works just fine. I own a few o/u guns, the closest to what you are thinking of getting is a Ruger 20 ga with 26" barrels. I think longer barrels are in style, but it's whatever you like best. No real velocity differences and with any double gun, the whole thing is shorter than the average pump etc.

I have the CZ REDHEAD in a 28 ga 28" with 5 chokes.
It has good fit -wood to metal.
Mine had sawdust in the works from when the stock was put on so I recommend removing the stock and washing it down good then a light lube job .I sprayed it down with rem oil then applied high pressure grease to the needed areas.
The high pressure grease works great on the hinge points also, making it very smooth and will also keep it in good shape.

I dont know if it will hold up to really high volumn shooting but it works for me so far.

Eventually the "ultimate upland gun" I'd like to acquire is the Beretta Ultra-Light 2 3/4"-only 12Ga O/U (a $2000-gun, that weighs 5.8 lbs), but the CZ's are an incredible bargain for what's being offered.

I've looked at the Baikal's/Remington Spartan's, NEF Pinnacle, and other entry-level O/U's, plus I once owned one of the [heavy] Ruger Red Label's. Until I can better afford a Beretta or two, I'd rather give my $$ to CZ!

And besides the 20Ga Canvasback that's first on my list, someday I'd also like to add a 28Ga O/U, too. Have a set of Hornady 28Ga dies for my DL266's, along with the standard die-sizes.

I have a CZ woodcock O/U 12 gauge that has been flawless.Great fit and finish IMHO,coobie
