Hi all,
I am wanting to replace the butt and forearm on my 760 pump 30-06 with a nice camo set, the hogue rubber job. However, they dont make it for the 760.
It sure looks to me that the 870 buttstock is the same. I dont own or know anyone with an 870 so i cant do the experiment myself. Anybody tried this and know if they are compatible and in what gauge? Im very doubtful that the 12/20ga forearm is swappable at all, but potential with the 410 or 28ga?
I would be interested in a cheap/free butt in 12ga and forearm in 410 to test fitment or find out if adaptable. Wood, synthetic, damaged (as long as still in a condition to fit), spray painted, etc is just fine.
Im competent in firearms modifications and decent on a mill and lathe if i have to get really creative with the forearm. So , please save the "take it to a gunsmith" stuff to yourself.
Any folks gone down this rabbit hole?

I might be wrong but I believe the 28ga 870 stocks will interchange with a 760

Awesome progress so far, thanks! I did have a guy tell me that the 12 & 20 butts on the 870 are the same, so it may appear that the 870's had a universally sized receiver.
Anybody have a 410 or 28ga forearm they want to sell? If i dont have to alter it to fit/make some kind of adapter i could even send it back to you

Jason You may been fibbed to. At one point in time the info your received regarding the 12 & 20ga butt stock being the same was true - back when the 870 (12, 16, and 20 were based off the standard weight receiver). When Remington went to the LW 20, that ended that. The LW 20 receiver dimensions are different.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

I have replaced a few 760/7600 stocks. The 20 gauge 870 or 1100 will work, the 12 gauge won't without a little filing.

Pulled the buttstock off my 760 308 the other day to repair a crack. I have a 12 ga 870 butt handy and compared it. It is the same general shape but is to large to fit the 760 don't afro engineer it , get the right stock. The dimension of the 760 top to bottom at the back of the action is right at 1.790" the same as my model 870 express 20 gauge....mb

As mentioned, the 20 gauge stock is what you want. I just got one from SARCO. The 760 I picked up a while back had a synthetic butt stock, but the original wood fore-end.
The “fleur-de-lis” pattern is slightly different on the 870/1100, but not enough to be really noticeable.
They had a few 760 fore-ends, as well (wood). Good luck.
Again, the 20 gauge is what you want for the buttstock. Don’t know if ANY gauge of 870 forend can be made to work on the 760.

Harleyjasondavidson, Greetings, Just curious as to how this project went. Did the 20ga 870 Stock or the Hogue stock fit the 760? Would be great to have it confirmed via actual experience. Thanks.
