I've been looking for Hornady 44 caliber gas checks for a while now, and they are not available anywhere I do business. Lyman has checks available, but I've had some bad luck with them not crimping tightly in the past (maybe just a fluke). Buffalo Arms had 44 cal. in stock, but it looks like they're made by Bullet Swaging Supply Inc. I sized up a couple of hundred SWCs this morning, and they worked great. Hornady has some competition (like they would give a F__k about GCs,, LOL)

The only thing I dislike about some non-Hornady checks, particularly homemade ones, is they often don't have nice sharp corners. Maybe, probably, not a huge deal in the whole scheme of things but I'm a little fussy. I've encountered some off brand checks also that were lopsided, uneven wall heights.
Hornady may not have our best interests at heart but at least they make a good GC when they stoop to actually making them.

Depending on when the last time you used Lyman checks, I believe now they are all made by Hornady and Lyman no longer makes the press fit ones.
Old stock excepted (probably 15-20 years).
Bayou Brass makes a decent gas check.

Thanks. Never heard of them. Their checks do look nice. Good to have another source.

Rest assured Gator Checks made by Bullet Swaging Supply is Top Shelf. Larry use to make jackets which was reviewed in Precision Shooting magazine. The jackets were as close to perfect as any the journalist had ever tested. I'll see if I can't find the article.

Good to have options.

Bayou Gas Check LinkHere's the link to Bayou Brass/Gas Checks. I was on my phone earlier an apologize for not being able to get a link. I've used them in 22 (22 Jet) and 30 caliber (32 Long,32 HR, 327 Fed.) but both were in revolver rounds. In those capacities, they have worked very well and have been available when others were not. I have sent others there for .375 and I will be eventually getting some for 2 . 348 rifles.

I've had good success finding gas checks at gun shows. Then found some 44 cal at not so local gunshop. I'd like to get back to that store more, but he's two hours North.

Weird how Amazon is selling more gun stuff now. We just bought a Dillon 750 from Amazon, and I have a Lyman lead thermometer inbound next week.

I order all mine from sage outdoors both gator and some of their in house stuff. Both have worked great for me so far but I'm pretty new to using them and I'm in no way an expert. I also order some of their aluminum ones to seal the tops of homemade shotshells. Turn them upside down over the shot and then give the end a little crimp.
