Well I'm officially retired. Notified my HR dept of my intentions 04/08/24 and last night was my "walk around" night. Went in on time and spent about 2 hours telling a lot of my co-workers good-bye. My good friends I'll see regularly @ the beach and playing music.
I planned to retire about a year ago but I wound up staying. I did give up my exit "package" by leaving before April 2025 but I don't care.
I've spent 25 of the last 28 years on 3rd shift. I am ready to live during normal hours.
I turned 60 in November and have planned and worked towards this for a loooonnngg time. It's almost been surreal today, but it sure feels good!!!!

Congrats OP. I’m about 12.5 years behind you. Like you I’ve been planning and sacrificing for a long time. I smile every time I see a new truck payment going into my Roth. I can hardly wait to retire.

Good for you! I never looked back, and only miss my co-workers.....well, some of them. In the next few years, you'll look back and wonder how you ever had time to work a job and get anything else done! Unwind and get on a human schedule, and after a while you'll start feeling normal again, and wonder how you made it through 3rd shift.

The transition can be a little challenging, but in a few months you will be one happy camper.
I did it 12 + years ago.

I retired early 2 years ago, and I still need to work less and play more - maybe. I enjoy my "projects".
Retirement has been great, and like many say, I can't see how I ever worked.
For me there was a transition time, maybe a year before I hit a good pace.

Thank you, sincerely. Every man who answers the bell as often as you have deserves our gratitude. 3rd shift really sucks. It's hard on you too. Congrats. Enjoy yourself.
