My son in law recently bought a Bear Creek AR-10 in .308W. I have been told that Bear Creek quality is lacking but the rifle is accurate and functions fine but the trigger is horrible. Almost 8 pounds and creeps and crawls the whole way. Since I know very little about ARs what should we do to remedy this. I have an AR-15 in.223/5.56 that my brother in law put together and it has a good trigger that breaks over clean and crisp.

Suggestions that won’t cost an arm and a leg would be appreciated.

This is from PSA. I have a similar one in one of my AR's. I really think I need to get a few more. I prefer the traditional curved trigger but I like 3 lb. triggers.

The budget trigger discussion starts and ends with Schmid. Either single or 2 stage.

Lots of companies sell rebranded Schmids.

From there the sky is the limit and I really like the G DMR High Speed National Match but that's probably overkill for your application.

Just like with my AR15's, I prefer the RRA 2 stage varmint match. They are a great trigger, that won't cost an arm and a leg. Generally under $90.00. Another favorite is the Larue Tactical MBT2S, and is in the same price range.

Thanks, I'll tell son in law to review this thread. From what I've heard I think I would not have gone Bear Creek but it does shoot accurately and cycles fine. So far.

Burns and BSA mention two great upgrade options at $45 and $90. I’ve used both. The RRA is worth the extra money, in my opinion.

I'm a 2 stage trigger guy and prefer Geissele SSA-E triggers but a Larue MBT at $115 is hard to beat for the money.

I've tried a bunch of both single and 2 stage drop in cartridge style triggers over the years and never found one that doesn't have creep and meets the specified pull weight. AR Gold is an exception but pricey @ $280

I'd put one of the lower end Geissele 2 stage triggers in it.
308 is a little harder to light than .223.

I've had a couple AR10's, from 6.5 Creedmoor to 308 win. Have never had any issues with the triggers I suggested, or a CMC single stage, or Geissele SSAE, except the SSAE was too light for the 308 win recoil. On occasion I'd get unexpected double taps with that Armalite AR10T. Pulled that trigger out, and use it in my iron sight Noveske. The Geissele G2S would also work well in the AR10, which is what I'm assuming you mean by "lower end" model. Personally, it would come down to price:

1. RRA 2 stage varmint match: $93.95 (3.5 pound pull)
2. Larue MBT2S: $115.00 (4.5 pound pull)
3. Geissele G2S: $170.00 (4.5 pound pull)

Looking at those prices, and the lighter pull weight of the RRA, the choice is a "no brainer".
