Anybody try this Federal factory load in their 30-06...how is the accuracy?

I've heard that some 30-06 rifles don't like the lighter 110gr bullets, but I do know of some that use the 125gr Federal Power-Shok factory loaded rounds with excellent results on deer and antelope sized game.

The Federal 125gr ammunition produces excellent groups in most rifles, has a muzzle velocity of 3,140 FPS with 2,736 FT/LB, and still has around 1,267 pounds of energy at 300 yards.

Very deadly on light to medium sized game.

Thanks for the reply. That's was what I was wondering about with the lighter bullets...but that 125 gr PS load sounds like another good option.

I've shot a handful with the 130TSX from an -06. Works great, light recoil, flat shooting. The 110 seems like more of a good thing to me.

The heavier I go, the smaller my groups get.

Between myself and the guys I load for, we've shot about thirty deer with the 130 grain TTSXs. All two hole, all dead within a few yards, most dropped in their tracks but for one exception (a bad shot). I killed two with a .270 using 110 TTSXs last fall. one went fifty yards and piled up dead, the other dropped in it's tracks.

I did see one rifle that did not like 130 grain TSXs, but that one shots TTSXs extremely well without worrying much about how much powder was pushing them.

If the 110 grain TTSXs shoot accurately, they will kill exceptionally well like any other TSX/TTSX.

Don't get hung up on the lighter bullet weight not shooting well. Guessing he's talking about conventional bullets. I'm sure the 110gr TTSX is longer than a 125gr CC bullet.

Been my experience that there is only one way to know if something shoots, but folks will try anything to not shoot apparently.

I will try anything to save money so I can shoot more. Wasting expensive bullets on deer size game hasn't been way up on my list of things to do.

You are correct that the 110 Barnes TTSX is longer than most conventional 125-130 bullets. Will shoot just fine out of a 1 in 10 twist barrel, and will be very deadly on deer sized game. I use the 130's myself for that size of animal, out of my 30 Belted Newton FN, as we have some huge bodied grain fed mule deer up here and I will run a bullet lenghtwise through one if I need to to put him down. YMMV, let us know how it works for you.

Have to agree with Swampy on this one, doesn't take a super bullet to kill deer.

God knows that extra $1.47 I spent on 4 deer would have put the kids through college.

I was just interested in the lightest, toughest, flattest shooting, mildest recoiling factory load as a do-all for deer and antelope. I asked about that particular federal load because it fit the criteria and I am a big Barnes fan.

$1.47 placed in a CD at 1.5%.....

But how well will the 110 gr Barnes TSX penetrate? Will it penetrate end to end on a Yaris as well as the 130 gr bullet? I think some testing must be in order.

Many 30-06 rifles shoot light slugs just fine. Especially modern designs that are long for their weight.

I have a 30-06 that will poke three 110g V-maxes in a 1/2" at 100 with handload 60g of Varget...

I have been thinking of trying either the Federal Factory load or some of 110g Barnes in that rifle since it shoots light slugs so well.

The '06 sure isn't famous for shooting 110 grain bullets.There are other choices better suited for the really light for caliber...

I just do not get the internet mentality of speed is everything!!!!

My heavy '06 likes the 110 VMax, pushed with RL15. No accuracy issues despite a jump of .25" or so.





I haven't tried the 110 TTSX yet.

I have a few Ralph Council 120gr FB benchrest bullets that have shot very well in just about every 30 cal rifle I have played with.

I would not be scared to try the 110s in in a 30/378 WBY. You could probably push them 4K+. If the term speed kills means anything it would be a death ray.

Especially given the fact at least 100g of that Barnes 110g slug IS going to go out the other side of most any deer or antelope..
