Everybody seems to be shooting 130s and lighter...
Anybody with some good 140 recipes out there?
I'm thinking pretty hard about the 140 Hornady IL-FB for elk
H4350? 4831?
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

I had my best luck with H-4350 with 120-130 grn bullets. For the 140's my 260 did really well with enough H-4831sc to drive the Hdy 140 IL flat-base 2700+ fps.
In my neck of the woods, I found the 129 gn Hdy IL flat-base to be just as effective as the 140 so that is where I landed.

Max load of IMR4350 over a 140gr flat base is the only load that shoots less than 1.5" in mine.

43.5g H4350 and a 140 or 48g H4831sc and a 140 both work for me.
Hot loads so work up.............

43gr H4350 behind either a 140gr VLD or Amax gives about 2783 fps and great accuracy in my .260. I'm still working with H4831, but so far it has done great too.

I have used mostly 140 gr bullets in the 260's I have owned. IMR 4350 (43 gr), H 4350 (42 gr) and H 4831sc (46 gr) have worked very well with cup and core bullets and Nosler PT's, work up carefully.

44 grains of IMR 4350, 140 grain Corelokts... 2750 fps out of a 22 inch barrel and 2800 fps out of the 24 inch barreled one...
source was the old IMR Brown Data Sheet...

I went to the range today:
43gr H4350 = 2640fps
44gr IMR4831 = 2700fps
...just incase anyone cares...

I have never tried IMR 4831 before but it obviously works well, how was the accuracy with the loads you tried today? Forgot to mention it earlier but IMR 7828 ssc is another great powder with heavier bullets in the 260.

I tried some 7828 (non-SSC) a few weeks ago - 2625 fps or so.
Today, the accuracy of the IMR4831 and the H4350 seemed about even, with a slight edge going toward H4350 in the last few charges for each. Probably about 3/4" average across the board.

Sounds like you are well on your way to getting a good load, certainly nothing wrong at all with 2700 fps and 3/4" groups. When my new 260 gets here I have high hopes for the 140 gr Ballistic Tip to be my main load for deer sized game.

RL 19 and plain hornadys. 45.0 gr gets 2725 from 22" barrel.

I agree with MarkinGa. IMR4350 for 120's and H4831sc for the 140's- least in my 260. I don't run mine hot.
The Hornady 129Interlock was THE bullet for 260 and 6.5x55 but I am hearing lately many now think it too hard and unexpanding. I can say that the 140 Sierras at modest speeds have been text book perfect on deer and even large hogs. I consistently get the fastest drops using them over any other rig I shoot.

Congrats on the 260- it is perfection. Ruger 77 Hawkeye stainless with a 2-7x35 Burris FFII. I swear the rifle, scope, and cartridge were made for each other...

Bb Oucha BB-the 48/H4831 load would be too hot in my rig. What kind of case life are you getting with it? Meaning how many times can you load the case b4 the primer pockey gets too loose? Thx Dober
