A lot of truly great music got overplayed and that pretty much ruined a lot of it for me. I'll go to lengths to avoid hearing Stairway to Heaven, Free Bird, and a lot of other tunes that were really good.

I actually used to kind of like Ray Charles, until I saw him perform.
Wife and I were in the LA area for a couple of years in the early 80's. We caught wind of Ray Charles coming to a small venue at a local community college, and I was "lucky" enough to score some tickets.
We were right up front, within spitting distance.
He was about an hour and a half late, made no apology, etc. etc.
His band was comprised mostly of some locals, and they were doing a pretty fair job. One of the guitarists hit a wrong note (no one at all would have noticed), when that black dickweed abruptly stopped playing the piano, turned his head toward the offending musician, and said in a very nasty tone "That's E Flat Major please!"
What an absolute dick. Never thought much of him since.

I have a friend who was/is a first call sax player in the PNW. When RC would come to town this buddy of mine would get the call. He said RC was very difficult. Well, those aren't the words he used exactly...

It's been said Mr. Zappa was rather picky about professionalism in the folks who worked for him too.

Honestly, an artists work is frequently better appreciated the less we know about their personal character. Still, doesn't surprise me re Zappa and professionalism. Some very difficult charts in his repertoire.

Stories/interviews I've come across mention not only the musical aspect but showing up to rehearsals and such on time and not under the influence............
maybe because of the complexity of what he was composing?

LD, Check out his playing with Herbie Hancock
Oh yeah. Definitely. I left out some others I also like.
Just another thread of old fuggs hating everything.
Move along.
LOL! I was reading along thinking the same thing. So basically most of the people posting in this thread could just simplify things and say "If it has musical notes, involves musical instruments or anyone singing I hate it." LOL!

So why are you posting in/on this thread? I will simply say, GFY.
I don't have any bands or artists because if I don't like the music, I don't listen. So I never learn the name of the musicians. I hate Rap and I can't stand Jazz. You might have noticed that I didn't refer to them as music.

You almost describe me. I could easily go the rest of my life without hearing music. I love being outside in the natural world or in a factory. The sound of people working, making a good living for their family is a great sound to me. But the sounds you hear while hunting or fishing are the best. I hear music at work because others play it. I would almost never play music voluntarily.

Pretty much any male artist that has come out of Nashville in the last 10-20 years. Any widespread panic, fish, type jam bands, including the Grateful Dead.
Lynyrd Skynyrd--I can't stand them at all--same goes for the rest of the "Good ole boy southern rock" crap like the Marshall Tucker Band, Allman brothers, the Outlaws, etc.
"Iron Butterfly", "James Gang", "Doobie Brothers", "Roy Orbison", "Humble Pie", "Elvis Costello", "The Cars", "Kansas" "Deep Purple" "Blue Oyster Cult", "Grand Funk Railroad", "J.Giles Band", "Supertramp", "Cream", "Led Zeppelin", "Jefferson Airplane", "Derek and the Dominos", so all you city slicker hill billy mofo's must like them or live in a closet and never heard of them...
ANYTHING rap/hip-hop ANYTHING country (except Johnny Cash) Pink Floyd Queen Bob Dylan Supertramp Heart The Beatles Yes Rolling Stones Styx Chicago Led Zeppelin Bruce Springsteen Fleetwood Mac
Won't listen to metal and don't care for shredding ala Malmsteen either. If I don't hear finesse on the fretboard I'm just not interested.
While I agree with Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dillon as being pure trash. I do enjoy my metal bands..I'm 64 and have zero use for country even though I grew up in the Dakotas. To each their own I guess. Everyone should enjoy their favorite bands. Regardless of style.

I hate " mr on his shoulders " John Denver and I hate " Country Roads ". I might be the only person from WV you ever hear say that.
I hate alot of other crap also but he tops the list.
The welcome signs in W Va. say ALMOST HEAVEN.
I know it does, but that doesn't make me like him or his songs anymore. I think what makes me so mad about him is almost everyone in WV puts him on a pedestal because of that stupid song. Most of the WV people who love that song honestly think that John Denver was from WV.
So, that being said, here's a morbid one liner joke about John Denver.
Why didn't John Denver take a shower before he got on the plane ? ...... He figured he'd wash up on shore.
Any & all Rap artist Any & all Disco artist John Douche Bag Legend Bruce Springsteen. Use to like him in the seventies. Saw him 3 times. Wouldn't walk across the street to see the liberal douche now.

Sounds kinda like an old Dean Martin song. You know,, “Everybody Hates Somebody Sometimes”. But then looking at all of these lists, I think my gosh. Somebody loved them long time because they made a butt load of money. 😃
