What sorts of hunting or fishing is there to do in the general vicinity of Adelaide in October, should one find oneself there with a week of spare time on his hands?
Everything I hear about Australia is mostly north, or eastern Australia. Seems like I never hear much about the south. What goes on there in the Southern Spring?

I am certainly open to listening. But I will have limited time, so the less time traveling and the more time doing something interesting would be preferred. That said, Tasmania would be damn cool to see for sure.

It's about like this:

hey Brent, I'm not right up to speed on the hunting down that way but I know there's the best red snapper fishing in the country down there. October is the start of the good season too. I think you guys have a red snapper over there that looks like it's in the lutjanid family but these are a different fish. Huge bump on their forehead, bright orange with iridescent blue dots, fight like hell. They are a great fish to catch and to eat too. Search snapper fishing in the Spencer Gulf.

It does seem that fishing is the way to go. Can those snapper be caught from the beach? I don't mind renting a boat, but was wondering if surf fishing was worthwhile. I heard ther is good bluefin tuna fishing offshore also. I'll have to rent fishing and camping gear since all my luggage space will be devoted to shooting gear.

Need a boat to get into the snapper. There's charters you can do day trips on. You might get salmon from the the beach down there but again they're not true salmon just something that somehow got to be called salmon. They fight good but taste like sh_t. Do the snapper charter thing.

did you make it to Adelaide ?
i am a comercial fisherman that is based there, if you want to hunt in South Australia you are limited to private land.
there is a very good game ranch called Water Valley that is free range hunting on a very very large parcel of land but has trophy fees, there are also neighbouring pay as you stay bush properties that have free range deer but no trophy fees, its like $50 a day and has some good deer but is not easy hunting
Victoria is a better proposition for self guided hunting, the state welcomes hunters, a lot of the public land is available for hunting

in SE Vic at this time of year is a good time to chase Sambar before the snakes get to active, they will rutt, hold and shed antlers at any time they have no set season, but most rutting activity is right now before it heats up

That ended when Brent showed up.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.
