Just purchased this today. More than I need for what I hunt but it's pristine, I've always wanted a No 1, and the price was right.

I've got 3 scopes in the safe, all Nikon Monarch UCCs. Gloss in 3-9x40 and 4-12x40AO, and matte in 1.5-4.5x20. I like the gloss to match the finish on the rifle, but I think the straight tube scope would look good on this type of rifle. Thoughts?

A Leupold 1.5-5x VX 3i in Warne QD mounts would work well on that.

#1s can be problematic with certain scopes. The rear ring is a bit forward.

I've used the 1.5-5 on the ones I've owned in the past and like the way the way they look and work. Another benefit is a lighter scope on an already heavy rifle.

Ditto the Leupold 1.5-5. I have it on two #1's and feel it's plenty for my usage (no cross-canyon shots or 600 yard steel ringing in my future). I did have to use extended rear rings to accomplish proper eye relief, no big deal.

Scope might look a little far back, and it would be for most folks, but my neck issues demand a more upright head posture. The extended ring buys a lot of leeway.

On two of my 1's; one (9,3x74R) has a Leupold VX2 1-4, the other (7.62x39) has Nikon Monarch in a similar power range. While I'm probably over compensating for extra eye relief, both scopes are mounted in Ruger double offset 1" medium rings.

Agreed - I use an extended rear ring on all of my No. 1's and have used the Leupold 1.5-5 in the past. I currently use the Nikon Monarch/African 1-4x20 on all of them - the longer tube length keeps the front ring back a bit from the end of the tube (which I know is just aesthetics, but...). Some folks complain about the doughnut/tunnel effect of this scope, but the 4" constant eye relief and German #4 reticle balances out any negatives for me.

Of the 3 scopes that you mentioned I would pick the 3-9x40.

Tried mounting both the 1.5-4.5x20 and the 3-9x40, not enough eye relief with either. Got extended rings on the way from Midway.

I wanted to shoot it anyway, so I did manage to get it sighted in with the iron sights, at least at 40yds. I figure I could kill a deer out to 100yds with it and I probably wouldn't feel comfortable past that with iron sights anyway.

I was using the factory ammo that came with it, the first factory ammo I've shot in a long time. Hurt my feelings to shoot over $20 worth of ammo with five pulls on the trigger.

Just slapped a Freedom VX 3-9x40 on my pre B model.
Used medium rings, an offset at the back.

Turret body still thick enough to not slide past the bevel at front of the offset.

Need to try Leupold offset rings in Med.
Would if I could find a set that doesn't have the ugly arsed L logo slapped on top.

I think that leupold would be perfect but I would post it on the classifieds and see if you can get anyone to trade you for a gloss one. I have a gloss 3-9 on my 22-250 looks sharp and I like it. Careful getting into the number one game it may be a disease.

Ain't nothing compared to getting into Shiloh Sharps at 2500-5000+ everytime.#1's & 99 s are inexpensive. Mb
