Season opened Sat. Saw 2 longbeards 3 weeks ago. Saw 6 longbeards last weekend. Figured "No Problem" they're still in the area I'll have a chance. Well after fighting traffic and driving for 5.5 hrs. Sleeping 4 hours walking straight up a mountain (okay its a PA mountain, a hill to you westerners) I hunted til quitting time (noon) without even hearing a gobble. Man, is that frustrating. Oh well will try again this weekend closer to home. Any PA guys have any good luck?

Hi Scott

No PA hunter here but close. I live in New York. We open in a couple of days. The birds are not doing much right now. Pretty quiet. Depends on where you go. I got in to a spot this morning (and tonight) where there was quite a bit of gobbling going on which leads me to believe the birds really have not busted up all that well yet. Seems to be the way it is going. You either here 5 or nothing. Spring was a long time coming. I think the best hunting will be later. My .02

I agree, later may be better. Was up in Potter county PA for the first day. I'll hunt SE PA this weekend and go back up for the third weekend. Maybe they'll be screaming by then. Good luck.

Potter County. Nice. I grew up in Wellsville, NY. Just over the Potter County Border.

TURKEYS SUCK. So does hunting in the rain. No bird (again), heck, not even a gobble all season. Of course, Tuesday I went for a quick hike before work and there was one gobblin' his fool head off. Go figure!

Scott - I hate it when that happens.
