Is it double or single based ? It's a spherical powder. Composition on wikipedia says it's double based but since it's discontinued there's no SDS on Hogdons website.

40 to 70 percent nitrocellulose
10 to 60 percent nitroglycerin kinda confusing

Dunno offhand, but it’s the schizzle for 160gr NPs in the .270. Have a bit in one bottle, and one unopened.

I’ll try to remember to check an old Hodgdon book tomorrow.

You may be confusing Supreme 780 with H-870 (I've done it before)

I have some W780 here - it's a double based powder. It replaced Winchester WXR (RL22)

I'm curious as to what you found for Win Supreme 780 in your older Hodgdon Manual smirk

The 2014 book places it between MRP and Superformance on the burning speed chart, and describes it as a magnum spherical powder useful in the .243, .270, and .300 WinMag, and used in many Winchester factory loads.

I load 56gr with 160 NPs in the .270, which has dumped three, maybe four deer on their asses pretty convincingly for my son and me. Presumed velocity is between 2700-2800, accuracy good. I may have used some in the .243 as well. The listing shows it to give the highest velocity for that bullet, at the time of course. RL26 might be better, but I have one box of the partitions left, so that’s where my jug will be used when the loads on hand are exhausted.

I reckon "older" is a relative term. My older Hodgdon manual is circa 1987. Supreme 780 was even born yet grin

I must be old . . . .

Back in the day I used a lot of Winchester 785. It worked very well in the 243 and even in the 270.

RL 26 might be better. RL25 did very well with my 300 Weatherby, so I’ll load my 300 up with 780 soon.
