Wondering if I can get away with Talley 30mm “low rings”? I’m hoping that with the larger tube, I might be more likely to get away with using low rings on a Meostar 3.5-10x50 scope on a Remington 700? Anyone out there able to get a 50 mm objective, 30mm tube to clear the barrel with low rings? What say you?

Not a problem on most sporter weight barrels with a longer scope.

But… read the previous posts about Talleys. There’s much better options.

That depends what Talley's he is talking about. The original Talley bases and rings are some of the strongest available. But, the lightweight one piece units are the ones discussed in the other post

Strong perhaps, but the original steel rings are scope pinching and binding sob’s! The only Talleys worth a chit are the detachable ones, either screw lock or lever. If you think about the physics involved it’s obvious how they pinch. The same screw holds the bottom half of the ring together and attaches it to the base at the same time. They need more torque to hold the bottom of the ring to the base than the top. They pinch like a nutcracker. The detachable rings have a separate screw to hold to the base, independent from the ring clamping screws.

Correct! I always used the screw lock detachables for that reason

We all knew that the trend for bigger tubes would eventually take us to this point. 😉. I just think that if I’m running a 300mm main tube I want a little bit more than a 50mm objective. 😂

I bet that with a 300mm main tube you’ll get a hell of a lot of mils of elevation which offsets the 25 pound weight of the scope.

With the weight and size of a 300mm tube I’d look at Warne Mtn Tech rather than Talley Lightweights.
