a while back there was a post on stuff to put on battery terminals to keep them from corroding. I can't find it. Does anyone remember i? Something no one would think of using worked really well if i remember. Thanks, Mike

Vaseline works well.

As does dielectric grease. That's what I use on all electric connections

Dielectric grease fan here. Years ago I also used Vaseline.

I use the little spray bottles.

Copper anti seize,been using it for years.

Whatever you use- - - -apply it to the OUTSIDE of the terminals- - - -after the electrical connection is clean and tight. It's supposed to keep acid vapors from getting to the connections. I've known a few dummies who slather the Vaseline, wheel bearing grease, or other stuff onto the battery posts and then install the cable. Channeling Forrest Gump's Mama- - - - -"Stupid is as stupid does!"

No-ox ID a special. Nothing else even comes close. And it goes on the inside - not the outside. A very tiny bit goes a long way. Completely does away with corrosion of any sort. Stops rust on mild steel in an exposed marine environment.

Thin coating will prevent corrosion starting, I usually have the aluminum version around. Either works

Dielectric grease promotes conductivity and seals
out harmful moisture.
Some years ago when Fords used EEC IV ignition,
the ignition module included a small squeeze packet
of Ford Dielectric Grease to smear on the contact
points of the module and distributor. The Ford
spark plug wires also had a packet to coat the
ends that went on the plugs and distributor cap
terminals.
I'm fairly sure GM did the same, although I never
worked for a GM dealership.
There's a good many aerosol battery terminal
coatings that work well that dry semi tacky
and keep the cooties away.
I've used Corrosion Block spray on my boat
batteries with good results

Nothing will keep a positive terminal (black post) from happening if there's much space between the upright stud and terminal cap on a wet battery. Clearing the shale and grease helps, but its an internal condition.

General corrosion can be prevented with dielectric grease, animal fat or any grease that seals an electrical connection.

There is no cure for black post beyond the manufacturing level and it will always be on the positive terminal on a wet battery......

Dielectric grease sounds like the way to go, but I'm a tightwad.
I just dab a little axle grease on the terminals.
I think more than anything, just keep them from corroding.
I just hate doing something under the hood and discovering I've swiped something across a greasy battery terminal and now I'm smearing it all over something I REALLY didn't want axle grease on! 😖
But it still beats discovering that white fuzz all over a battery terminal on a vehicle that won't start!

Most parts stores have a little display of ketchup packet size pouches. Brake slide grease, di-electric grease, white lithium, graphite, other goodies.

I always have a bottle of Noloax around being a sparky.

All these replies and nobody mentions pouring some Dr Pepper on the terminals.

Clean the cable ends and the posts with baking soda paste and rise with water when the chemical action stops.

Clean with a battery terminal brush.

Cover the cleaned metal parts with generic Vasoline.

No corrosion.

Depending on the configuration of the top of the
battery, IMO it's not worth the risk of getting some
down in the cells. That'd be worse than corroded
terminals. I don't use the aerosol spray cleaners
for the same reason

Dielectric grease does NOT conduct electricity. It is actually an insulator, but will help prevent corrosion after the connection of the battery terminals.
