Last January I got an email from the CMP stating that they had a few 1917 Enfield rifles for sale, so I quickly sent my order package in. They charged my card quickly and advised me that I would have to have the rifle shipped to my FFL in Michigan because I have a MI driver's license but was at my winter home in AZ. The rifle arrived at the FFL a fairly short while later, but I didn't see it until yesterday, after arriving back in MI.

I had ordered the Service Grade for an extra hundred bucks, but their description allowed for some rust, stock dents, bore problems and marring of the finish. Of course I was hoping for a pristine rifle, preferably of Winchester manufacture, with a shiny bore. Fat chance...

Upon opening the box, I beheld a pristine rifle of Winchester manufacture, with a nice shiny bore. I am beyond happy with this beautiful rifle. This one is going to get fired a lot.[Linked Image]

I’d drill and tap it, mount a 5-30x50 Vortex and cut the wood down….maybe engrave a deer in the stock.

….or just leave it original.

That’s a beautiful rifle and it’s really nice to see an original example still survived the 100+ years. 👍🏼

Congratulations on getting something better than you expected.

Nice rifle. Congrats. I'm sure you will enjoy shooting that one.

Why so small of a scope?

And that is a nice rifle!

1917 Enfield is my most favorite action. Its built like a 53 Buick.... S O L I D !

Nice Score. I wouldn't touch a thing on it...

On my short list of desireable rifles... I'd love to find a Model 30S Remington, chambered in a 250 Savage.

Its a civilian version of the 1917 Enfield action, in a shorter package.

Nice one. My friend had one. Cops stole it investigating a "burglary" while he was not home.

I picked up a scoped, sporterized Winchester 1917 in a pawn shop a little east of Memphis- - - -".300 Win Mag" on the hang tag. Wrong! Win Mag wouldn't chamber- - - -a chamber cast revealed the truth- - - -.300 H&H! I'm pretty sure somebody installed a Brit 303 bolt to get it to work with the belted magnum cartridge. I've done that myself on a few magnum conversions of 1917s back before they got too scarce to sporterize. It's had a pretty decent sporter job. not a kitchen table Bubba butchery- - - -rear sight ears milled off, Fajen stock, etc.. $250.00 out the door, background check and all! It shoots MOA or a little better, even with the original 2 stage trigger.

Did CMP finally get rid of that arrogant donkeyhole who used to run the place? "Orest"- - - -or something like that? Hope so- - - -he was a real piece of work!
