The old guy, Breeze, managed over 25 mph in the 100 yard dash, electronically timed too so no help from a human on a stopwatch. Not bad for 10+ years old and arthritic. Beautiful dogs, how often do they race ? Whenever we can find the time to get to something near us. As in within a 1/2 day drive or so. These guys just race what's known as Fast CAT, 100 yard races that are open to all breeds. The old guy might die if he tried a full coursing event (600-800+ yards with twists and turns) and the young guy would love it but with screws in his left rear knee it might mean another repair. The Fast CAT races are straight line and only 10 seconds at the most for the majority of dogs. I think the wife is planning on a race for us over on the coast, about a 7 hr drive, in July.

Didn't know they had whippet races. Right up the road from you, at the Shasta county fairgrounds. They were held at the big dog show there. Not just sighthounds at these type races, everything from wiener dogs to Staffies to Great Danes.

Grandpa used to run Greyhounds up at Sacramento county fairgrounds I believe in the 40's. He loved Greyhounds and GSP's, I got to hunt behind one the year before Grandpa passed.

I had a very big Italian greyhound, smokey was the size of a whippet, lived to watch him run. He lived 16 years, still miss him.
